INTRODUCTION

A machine or a structure can be considered as an

assemblage of deformable solid components
each of which is subjected to a definite loading. In order that a component withstands the loading
its dimensions are decided based on the induced stresses and strains. Thus the analysis of stresses
and strains is

of great relevance to design. The present course deals with the fundamentals
connected with the analysis of stresses and strains in deformable solids.



COURSE CONTENT

Fundamentals of mechanics of deformable solids


Introduction, analysis of axial and sh

loaded components. Statically determinate and indeterminate problems. Castigliano’s theorem.
