need to be able to see the file extensions. To configure this behavior, op

Introduction


In the next section you will see a list of software that OpenClinica needs to run. You
must

upgrade to Java 6, Tomcat 6
and

PostgreSQL 8.4.1.
When upgrading

the other pieces of
soft
ware, please be sure to follow their instructions and back up everything so it isn’t lost.


This document explains how to upgrade the OpenClinica application and nothing else.

Verify

Shutdown Tomcat



Backup the application’s database



Shutdown the postgres DBMS



Backup the web application’s
datainfo.properties

file located at

CATALINA_HOME

webapps
\
OpenClincia

WEB

INF

Backup the web application’s war file lo
cated at
CATALINA_HOME
\
webapps
\
OpenClinica.war



Backup the CRFs and datasets previously created at
CATALINA_HOME

openclinica.data

Upgrade




Manually u
ndeploy the web application

NOTE: (Undeploying the web application must be done or else
the upgrade wi
ll

fail. Undeploying
from Tomcat Manager will not remove all the necessary files. A later step will be taken to
undeploy the application from Tomcat Manager
in addition to this step

Delete the webapps/OpenClinica directory

o

Delete the OpenClinica.war i
n webapps directory

o

Delete the work/Catalina/localhost/OpenClinica directory



Start Tomcat



Create a folder at the following location: C:
\
oc
\


NOTE: (If this folder already exists, please skip
to the next
step)




Extract the files in the OpenClinica
-

Login to Tomcat Manager at
http://localhost:8080/manager/html




Select Undeploy in the commands column next to OpenClinica



Deploy OpenClinica.war from the Distribution folder using the Tomcat

Manager

(The file is located in
C:

Update the
datainfo.properties files

in CATALINA_HOME
\
webapps
\
OpenClinica
\
WEB

INF
\
classes

Go to database configuration section of the file and enter the following
information


dbType=postgres

dbUser=clinica

dbPass=clinica

db=openclinica

dbPort=5432

dbHost=localhost




Place the files backed up from the openclinica.data folder into the new openclinica.data
folder that is created



Start the DBMS



Restart Tomcat



Verify patch for the Op
enClinica web application

Test database connection and basic authentication

o

Open a web browser on the server to http://<<server url>>:8080

o

Verify that tomcat is running

o

Open a web browser on the server to http://<<server url
>>:8080/OpenClinica

You should see the login page

Login to the system



Verify v
ersion number is upgraded to

If you previously installed OpenClinica on an Oracle 10g database,
you may follow the same
instructions abov
e. Where it says PostgreSQL, refer to Oracle.


The only difference is to set up your database configuration differently in the datainfo.properties
file. It should look like:

dbPass=clinica

db=openclinica

dbPort=5432
