Foreword

As you’ll notice,
this document includes a wide vari
ety of skills
: concept art, low poly
and high poly 3D, programs and their code, and even complete group
-
projects for
game prototypes. This was done for one simple reason: I ’m not a
person that can
concentrate for
weeks on one thing.

Hence , I have a broad
interest in various techniques and

I ’ve trained myself, so to
speak, to be able to work on many different things at once while keeping a good
overview over all of them.

To be able to do that
,

I

had to learn a lot of different
skills

(
which

I didn’t mind,

seeing
as I like learning new things
)
This also has the advantage that
I am

able to quickly
pick up
new stuff and put it into action,
.

The combination of these 2 things should help me

in becoming a good producer:
being
able to watch over the many differe
nt things that go on during the production
of a game and to recognize and solve many of the problems that pop up. Or if I
can’t solve them,
at least

have a basic understanding of the matter and know
who
m

to address or what to do
,

to
fix

it
q
uickly and effi
ciently.

On top of all this, I don’t really mind being in the background, solving the problems
that nobody seems to notice or find important. I do not mind being the oil in the
engine, the
one

we all know in the back of our mind to be there, but never pay
attention to.

3D

Hi gh Pol y 3D

The goal for this
model was to take
an old car, in this
case a
Ferrari

250
GTO
,

and transform
it into a car that the
population of a
certain area might
use. This by adding,
changing or
subtracting

things
.

Low Pol y 3D

T
his hatch was made as
a small exercise on
normal
-
maps and
combining them with
good textures. The
screenshots show the
plane it was placed on
and the textures with
normal
-
map, diffuse
and specular.

ish one room appartement and an
Amazonian I ndian girl.

Both were first done as line drawings on
paper and then scanned and painted
in photoshop.

Programming

Di rectX

This project was created
to show my skills after 1
year
of wo

with
DirectX.

I t includes a geometry
shader, post
-
processing
effects, terrain with it’s

own physics
-
mesh, force
fields

an
d an

animated
charac
ter with a
character controller. I t
can load any model with
texture
.

The 2 images are ingame and the geomet

respectively

This was all achieved by using the framework and tutorials provided to us by
our teachers Koen Samyn and Brecht Kets.

OpenGL

The following is still a work in
progress and should be
finished near the end of
December: My goa
l for this is
to create a working particle
engine that ca
n be
converted to a screensaver.

This will all be realized by a
combination of self
-
study
and guidance by Koen
Samyn.

The 2 shots are taken while the program was running and off the particle
-
system
’s Tick() code respectively.

Projects

Ani mal Madness

Animal Madness was a 6
week
s project.

T
he goal was
to create the prototype for a
game that should teach
children the properties of
certain animals.

The goal of this game is to
build your very own anim
al
from different parts and
make your way through the
level successfully.

On this pr
oject
,

I
took on the following roles: Team
-
lead, Lead
-
programmer
and Producer
,

together with all the PR.

The project was made in Unity
,

with textures and models made in Adobe
Photoshop and Autodesk 3DS Max respectively.

Fall
-
out was so good as to lend us t
he catchy song.

The team consisted of: Laura Loossens, Xander

Clerckx
, Dries Debecker and
me.

UDK
-
Level: The Cathedral

The goal here was to
create a complete
level from scratch. This
was done over a
period of roughly 10
weeks, regretfully
combined with ot
her
assignments

for other
classes.

My role in this project
was that of a Technical
-
Artist: taking care of
some of the shaders,
materials and 3D models
.

The team consisted of:
Jan Triest, Vincent
Callebaut, Yannick
D’Hondt, Jessy De Lannoit
and me.
