Connecting Technology and Market Opportunity for Your Strategic Growth
•yet2.comis seeking innovative RFID solutions (including novel platform technologies and
associated services) with applications across multiple vertical industries. An attractive solution
will enable authentication and certification of various resources more effectively than existing
bar code solutions. It will offer clearly differentiated benefits at enterprise and consumer level.
For example, increased asset utilization, streamlined operations, and improved productivity ‐‐
that culminate in rapid and quantifiable return on investment (ROI).
•Cost of RFID implementation: Solutions that lower overall implementation costs are required.
This includes: hardware ‐‐ e.g. active/passive tags, readers (fixed or handheld), wireless access
points, network servers, etc.; software ‐‐ e.g. middleware, warehouse management, supply‐
chain management, and associated services ‐‐ e.g. systems integration and consulting services.
•Systems integration: Information‐flows between trading partners and other key stakeholders
(e.g. regulatory authorities and insurance providers in the healthcare value chain) will
necessitate significant infrastructure changes that are complex to execute. New approaches
based on widely accepted procedures/industry standards could help alleviate some major
concerns ‐‐ e.g. implementation of electronic pedigree for anti‐counterfeiting and other
•Complexity: The availability of simplified and easy‐to‐deploy RFID solutions will enable more
projects to be initiated. Success of such engagements provides technological credibility and
reputational benefits for solutions providers ‐‐ which ultimately leads to widespread adoption
at the enterprise level.
Key Challenges and Opportunities
•New, robust next‐generation solutions should address market needs across multiple vertical
industries including: healthcare; manufacturing; transportation and logistics; consumer
packaged goods; packaging; pharmaceuticals; and retail.
•Lower‐cost RFID tags to enable transition from pallet‐level to item‐level tracking.
•Real‐time asset tracking ‐‐ e.g. temperature, humidity, contaminants, location, etc.
•Serialization solutions based on electronic product code (EPC) standards for regulatory
compliance, anti‐counterfeit, and anti‐tamper applications.
•Novel combination of RFID with other technologies to deliver cost benefits and efficient hybrid
solutions ‐‐ e.g. RFID + Infra‐red (IR).
•Simple RFID solutions ‐‐ e.g. ultra high frequency (UHF) readers for mobile phone; RFID starter
kits/apps for smartphones and tablets.
Application Areas (not limited to this list)
•The proposed solution must have a compelling technology value proposition with clear and
quantifiable benefits. This should be supported with demonstrable field operational data
points and product samples (from actual implementations, trials, or pilots ‐‐ not proto‐types)
•The technologies (including hardware, software and associated processes) implied in the
solution should be covered under broad‐based intellectual property rights ‐‐ including
copyrights, trademarks, and patents.
