NVITRO STUDIES ON NARROW SPECTRUM ANTIBIOTIC
-

BACTERIOCIN PRODUCING LACTOBACILLUS SPECIES ISOLATED
FROM RAW MILK AND SCREENING OF SWEETENING GENE

Lactobacillus

was isolated from Cow, Buffalo and Goat milk. The antibacterial
activities of the isolates were

detected against certain pathogenic organisms. The
antimicrobial
substances produced by the isolates were

characterized to be bacteriocin
and the molecular weight was determined by tricine


SDS PAGE was detected to be 3.5
and 6.5 KDa. The bacteriocin prod
ucing capability was found to be plasmid oriented in
few of the isolates. The ability of the isolates to produce sorbitol and the presence of the
sorbitol producing gene in the bacteriocin producers playing a duel role as probiotics and
as diet supplements

for diabetic patients was screened by 16S rRNA sequencing from the
isolates.
