Installing COM+ DLL on Windows Server 2003

(JTA 9.00 standard)

Step 1: Prepare Windows 2003 Server

This step needs to be performed to enable COM+ access for the network and should be performed on
Windows 2003 for the COM+ component to operate properly.

Ena
ble Network COM+ and DTC Access

1.

Launch the Control Panel and Select “Add or Remove Programs”

Select the “
Add/Remove Windows Components
” on
the left
-
hand side



3.

Locate the
Application Server

item and click on
Details button

4.

Make sure that there i
s a checkbox set for the
following items:



Enable network COM+ access



Enable Network DTC Access



Configure User Groups and Users

You will need to configure user information on the Windows 2003 server to access the Jante
k software.

1.

Create a user group for accessing the Jantek software


for example we could name it
Jantek

Users
.
Add to this group the users which should have access to the Jantek sofware.



2.

Create a user that will be associated with the COM+ application


for example we can create a user
named
comuser
. Make sure that this user is a member of the
Jantek Users

and
Distributed

COM

Users

groups.


3.

Add any Windows users which will use the 3
-
tier PC Punch software to the group titled “Distributed
COM users”.


4.

Onc
e you’ve created the necessary groups and users and have installed the Jantek software, you can
configure the access rights to the folder so that the group
Jantek

Users

has read/write access to the
folder in which the Jantek software is installed.


Step 2:

Register COM+ DLL on Server

The following outlines the procedure required for registering the COM+ DLL on the Windows 2003.

Create COM+ Application

1.

Start up the
Component Services

screen (this is usually found under the
Administrative Tools

item in
the
Wi
ndows Control Panel
).


2.

Expand the tree so that you can see the
COM+

Applications

group ( typically it’s found under
Console

Root

/
Computers

/
My Computer

)

3.

Right
-
click on the COM+

Application item, and select
New



Application
. This will start the
COM+
Application Install Wizard
. Click on the

button.


4.

Click on
Create an empty application




5.

Enter the name of the application and
Activation Type.

For the purposes of this document we’ll use the
Application n
ame
Jtaw9App
.

For the Activation Type we should choose
Server application
.

Click on




6.

In the
Set Application Identity

screen, we leave the
Account

set to
Interactive

User

and click

7.

In the
Add Application Roles
, we leave the scree
n as is and click on

In the
Add Users to Roles
, we leave the screen as is and click on

9.

We should now be on the final page, click on


10.

Right
-
click on the
Jtaw9App

item we had just created, then select
Properties
.

Select the
Identity

tab and pe
rform the following



Change the Account type to select the
Identity

tab



Set the User field to
comuser
.



Enter the password for comuser in the
corresponding fields.



12.

Select the Security tab and perform the following:



Remove the checkmark from the “
Enforce

access
checks for the application
” item.



Make sure the Impersonate Level is set to
Impersonate

Click on the

button


Add COM+ Components

1.

Expand the tree under
Jtaw9App

item so that the folders
underneath it are visible. Move the mouse over the fol
der
Components

and right
-
click. Select the
New



Component
.

You should now see a Welcome screen. Click on the

button.

You should now see a screen with the text

install a component
, and three buttons. Click on the
button labeled
Install
new component(s)
.




3.

You should now get a screen titled Select files
to install. Navigate to the folder in which you
installed the DLL files, then highlight the
JTAW9.DLL file in this folder, then click on
the

button.



4.

You should now see a scree
n much like what is
depicted to the right.

Click on the

and locate the JTAW9.TLB
(which should be in the same folder as the DLL
file) file, then click on the

button.

You should now see both the JTAW9.DLL and
JTAW9.TLB files listed. At this point
you can
now click on the

button, then the

on the next screen to finish the
installation.



6.

You should now see an item titled
jtaw9.jtaw9

listed under
components.
Right
-
click

on this item, and select the
Properties

item.



7.

Go to the
Transactions

tab and make change the
Transaction support

item to
Supported
. You can then click
on the

button.

Step 3: Create Installation disc for client

Once you’ve installed and registered the DLL on the server, you should create an i
nstall set which you
can use to enable the client application on the workstations to access this DLL.


1.

On the
Component Services

screen,
right
-
click

on the
Jtaw9App

item, then select the
Export..

menu item. This will start the COM+
Application Export Wiza
rd. Click on the

to continue.



2.

In the
Application Export Information

screen, enter
the folder and filename to export. For this example
we will create the export in the
JTA_900.COM

folder in a file called
jtaclient.msi
.


3.

For the
Export as

option, se
lect the
Application
proxy

option.


4.

Click on

On each of the workstations that will be running the 3
-
tier client software, you will need to run the

The setup.exe found in the JtaComRun folder on the CD

Procedure for Reinstallation/Update of COM+ Component

There may be situations where you may have to reinstall or update the COM+ components (e.g. adding
new version to either correct bugs o
r to add new features). This section specifies the procedure for
performing the update installation on the server.


1.

Start up the
Component Services

screen (this is usually found
under the
Administrative Tools

item in the
Windows Control
Panel
). Locate t

download from the FTP site).

Perform steps as outlined in the
Add COM+ Components

section (on page
4
) to add the update

components.
