Loan Approved for Breton Industries, Inc. Leading to the Retention of 106 Existing Jobs and
the Creation of 10 Jobs

City of Amsterdam, NY

The Montgomery County Business Development Center is pleased to
announce the approval of a $200,00
0 loan to Breton Industries, Inc.. The term of the loan is 5
at 1.5%. The company will utilize the loan proceeds to purchase machinery and equipment for their
expansion project at their current facility in the Edson Street Industrial Park. The ove
rall project of
$1,021,000 will entail a 19,200 sq. ft. expansion to their existing facility to increase their
manufacturing capacity along with the purchase of machinery and equipment. This loan will result in
the retention of the Company’s 106 employees
and will lead to the creation of 10 additional
employees over the next three years.

Breton Industries, Inc. is a follow up to Barlow Manufacturing Co. initiated by Griffith B Lewis in
1949, who specializes in custom fabric for the Department of Defense.

In 1972 Griffith B and G
Richard Lewis incorporated Breton Industries and as a result Griffith, G Richard, Peter and his son
Michael now occupy the executive positions of the company. The company manufactures hundreds
of high quality fabric including Nyl
on, Polyesters, Cotton, Kevlar, Nomex, Urethanes and Vinyl,
Silicone and more. Their product lines include Military and Government contracts, Emergency
Medical Teams, Industrial Corporations, Aerospace Technology and Recreational Equipment. The
company p
rovides in
house engineering and design assistance, welding frames for Jeep tops and
Military vehicles, bulk cutting of fabric, precision sewing of fabric, heating and sealing for superior
strength, painting of camouflage for the military designs and wareh
ouse and packaging specialties.
Some quality products include camouflage anti
glare enhancement shields, camouflage military parts,
covers and bags, high temperature silicone coated fiberglass, bow kit frames for military covers and
tops and doors for the

Humvee and trailers. The company has provided ballistic nylon fabric
protection in automobiles including Lyndon B Johnson’s after the assassination of President
Kennedy and Armored Tank projects. They provided research and development engineering for th
Modular Tent Program with Eureka Tent (Johnson Tent ) in Binghamton (war tents) and a variety of
programs with Martin Marietta, United Defense and other major defense contracts.
