based student competitions in space

related categories, and

, the competitions are intended to stimulat
e elementary and
secondary school students to further their studies in math, science, technology,
and geography, and

Whereas

through their respective research projects, the students’
critical
-
thinking, problem
-
solving, communications, and collaboration ski
lls
are enhanced, and

Whereas
, nationally, 3,600 students from all grade levels submitted more
than 1,500 entries for consideration in this year’s competitions, and

Whereas
, on the middle school level, a winner is selected at each of
NASA’s seven centers i
n the respective competitive categories, and

Whereas
, the seven NASA center winners in each middle school category
then compete for the national award designation, and

Whereas
, in the middle school Aerospace Technology Engineering
Challenge category, two N
ortheast Kingdom home schoolers, Benjamin
Turcotte and Alexandre Caillot, were named the 2004 national winners, and

, their joint project involved building a new concept rocket
launcher thrust structure model, and

Whereas
, each of these students wil
l receive a scholarship to attend the
NASA Space Camp in Huntsville, Alabama and will be presented an NSIP
commemorative plaque at a NASA award ceremony, and

Whereas
, Benjamin’s and Alexandre’s accomplishment is reflective of
Vermont’s home schoolers’ outs
tanding academic achievements, now
therefore be it

Resolved by the Senate and House of Representatives
:

That the General Assembly congratulates Benjamin Turcotte and Alexandre
Caillot on being named the 2004 national middle school winners of the
National A
eronautics and Space Administration (NASA) Aerospace
Technology Engineering Challenge, and be it further

Resolved
: That the Secretary of State be directed to send a copy of this
resolution to Benjamin Turcotte and Alexandre Caillot.
