URL's & Page
Extensions :

Fair
– for ease of indexing by the search engines, your home page
should ideally be static HTML and not have any redirects or META
refreshes. Your home page and most other pages are dynamically
generated ASPX pages. Some search engines cannot index URL’s with
“?” within them. This means that search engine robots could have
trouble finding and crawling the majority of your pages. See

Recommendations :

While the design of your site is relatively compatible with search
engines, the ASPX technology used to build this site creates dynamic
pages on the fly, which makes it difficult for search engines to crawl and
index all your site content.

Most search engines refuse to crawl a large number of dynamic URL’s
containing query string symbols such as “?”. Consider having your site
designer integrate a parameter work-around to remove the offending
symbols from your dynamic content and ensure search engines can
index the bulk of your pages. More info here:

.

To ensure Google knows what pages on your site to index on a regular
basis, we would also recommend the creation and submission of a
Google XML Site Map
.

To help ensure the site can be more easily indexed by search engines
and found by your target market, it needs to be properly optimized. This
would involve:

 Keyword research conducted to help determine the most
relevant, tightly focused keywords and phrases to target to
enable the site to be found for related search queries.

 Tailored Title Tag and META Tag re-creation for each page,
based on page content.

 Keyword integration into the site’s visible body text, link text and
ALT IMG attributes. We suggest using professional SEO
copywriting services to achieve this.

 Implementation of a custom 404 error page and permanent 301
redirects to replace any moved or missing pages.

 The submission of the revised, optimized site to the most
important directories in the countries that the site targets.

We recommend this be carried out by a professional search engine
optimization firm such as
Web Rank
or by a dedicated person in-house
who can take the time required to
learn SEO from scratch
.

• Your HTML code should be checked for accuracy against the
attached list of errors and warnings.

• Test the look and feel of your site in many different browsers,
including Firefox, Opera Microsoft Internet Explorer and AOL, as
well as on different platforms, including Macintosh and PC.

• The more high quality links you have pointing to your site from
outside your network, the better. Try obtaining non-reciprocal links
or reciprocal links from similar sites or niche directories in your
industry to improve your link popularity. If you don’t have time to do
this yourself, you may like to consider implementing a professional,
pro-active link building campaign (prices available from Web Rank
upon request).

• Some engines favour links from popular sites. Therefore, a few links
from Web sites with a high link popularity score may be given
greater importance than a larger number of links from less popular
sites. Ensure your site is submitted to all the most popular search
engines and directories worldwide (prices available from Web Rank
upon request).

• Try to keep the total file size of your home page under 40K, and
other pages on your site under 30K. If your page takes too long to
load, people may not wait and "click away" to your competitor.

• Get your pages to load faster by using an image optimising utility
(such as
http://www.imageoptimizer.com
or search the web for free
optimizers) before uploading photos and images to your site. These
reduce image size by reducing the number of colours in the image
without sacrificing quality.

• Make sure you include a unique optimized Title attribute, META
description and META keyword tag in the HTML code of each site
page. The Title attribute is probably THE most important element
when it comes to search engine relevancy. The META description
tag is often used by search engines and directories to describe your
site to searchers. The META keyword tag is sometimes but rarely
taken into account by search engine robots when determining your
site’s relevancy for particular search strings.

• Ensure you are targeting the right niche search words and phrases
by using a keyword researching tool such as
Word Tracker
. This

Search Engine Compatibility Report Web Rank www.webrank.biz

Page 5
will provide an accurate guide to what people are typing in to search
engines and directories to find goods, services and information
similar to that offered on your site (prices for keyword research
available from Web Rank upon request).

• Once you have your targeted search phrases, include them in your
Title attribute and META tags to boost your site's overall ranking
relevancy.

• If you have a lot of content, try to distribute it evenly amongst your
pages along theme lines. For example, if you sell shoes in different
colours and styles, dedicate a page to each colour or style instead
of describing all colours and styles on the one page or via pop-up
menus. For example site.com/shoes/stilettos.htm or
site.com/boots/leather.htm.

• If your site is aimed at different regions and countries, there is no
need to duplicate content and create a separate page for every
single region/country you are targeting. You can reach your desired
target audiences by use of regional domains, browser IP detection
and subsequent redirection to regional content and/or regional
targeting within pay per click campaigns.

• Keep the number of links on any given page to a maximum of 99,
even if that means breaking your site map into multiple pages, as
Google dislikes the use of 100 or more links on a single page.

• Keep track of how visitors found your site and what search terms
they used via your log files or site statistics. Utilise this information
to regularly update your META tags and site content (prices for
monthly web analytics available from Web Rank upon request).

• Install different browsers on your computer (or ask your site
administrators to do so) to ensure your web page is viewed correctly
in various browsers and is “backwards compatible”. Not everybody
uses Microsoft Internet Explorer. Keep track of your visitor's browser
and browser version usage via your log files or site statistics.

• Once you have integrated targeted search phrases within your
META and title tags, include combinations of them (logically) in your
site's body text to boost your site's overall ranking relevancy. Rather
than repeat a particular keyword over and over on the same page
(which could trip spam filters), try using contractions or variations of
that keyword eg. floral, florists, flowers.

• It’s widely believed that the closer your text is to the top of the page
code, the more relevant the search engines will consider it. So make
sure your important text content and navigation menu features high
COMMERCIAL-IN-CONFIDENCE

Page 6
in your HTML code.

• Because most search engines can't "read" Flash, images or text
graphics, try to limit their use in favour of keyword-rich text, or
graphics with ALT IMG tags, to improve overall code "search
relevancy".

• To further boost your ranking relevancy, try naming images or
pages with file names that utilise your key search phrases. For
example, instead of " logo.gif" currently on your home page, use
“[yourkeywordhere].gif”. Instead of calling your page file name
"/services.htm", use "[your-services-here.htm]". But don’t go
overboard and use keywords excessively per file name, make sure
the names are logical. Also be sure to use hyphens not underscores
to separate your keywords within file and page names as search
engines can’t distinguish individual keywords otherwise.

• Search engines attribute special ranking relevance to the H1 tag, a
tag used to create text headings. Try to use a single H1 heading tag
on every page, incorporating your targeted search phrases to give
your relevancy a boost in search engines. Use this text heading in
place of existing graphic headings or regular text headings to
ensure search engines attribute extra relevancy to your site.

• Spelling and grammar errors make your site look unprofessional to
visitors and may discourage them from becoming customers. Make
sure you run your page copy through a spell checking program
(such as the one built into Microsoft Word) before publishing.

Search Engines employ sophisticated spam filters that can easily
locate the use of deceptive tactics employed in a website to
artificially inflate a site’s relevancy for search queries. When
spotted, these tactics can result in the site being penalised or
ignored in the search results or even being permanently removed.

Most search engines employ Quality Guidelines for webmasters to
follow when constructing their sites. These include advice and
recommendations for what tactics to avoid. As an example, here are
Google’s Quality Guidelines
.

AltaVista, AOL, Google, HotBot and MSN. It also checks your current Google PageRank score.

Dead Link Check :

This utility checks to see if your home page has any dead or broken links.

Page Load Time :

Slow load times may cause you to lose potential visitors. Surveys indicate that the majority of visitors would

Your load time is dependent on the number of images on your page, the size of each image, and the speed
of your modem.

Recommendations
• Check on an image's file size and reduce it with
an image optimising tool such as
www.imageoptimizer.com
.

• The files and images marked in red are larger
than they need to be. Make sure you reduce their
file size to save page load time.

• Try to reduce the number of servers you
connect to. Each connection adds about 2
seconds to your download time.

Understanding Your Results
Page load time depends on:
• The size of your HTML file and any frames it
references.

• The number and size of your images.

• Use of HEIGHT and WIDTH attributes with your
IMG and TABLE tags.

• The number of servers that must be contacted
to download files and images.

• The speed of the user's modem.
It's a good idea to keep your page load times under
about 12 seconds on a 28.8 modem.

Warnings
• Your home page <TITLE> tag is under-utilized and not optimized. The <TITLE> tag should be a maximum of 10
words in length, should be a readable sentence and should include your most important keywords or a
descriptive phrase without unnecessary keyword repetition. The Title attribute is probably THE most important
element when it comes to search engine relevancy.
• Your META Description Tag is missing from your home page HTML code. Your META Description Tag is often
used to describe your web site in the search engine results so it should contain a readable, enticing sentence of
25 words or less and should include your most important keywords or a descriptive phrase without unnecessary
keyword repetition.
• Your META Keywords tag is missing from your home page HTML code. Although not necessary to include,
some search engines still index the content of the META Keywords tag so it is worth including. Your META
Keywords tag should contain a list of your most important keywords (a maximum of 30 recommended),
separated by commas and without unnecessary keyword repetition.

• Your site fails to utilize unique Title and META tags for each page. Utilizing unique page Titles and META tags
ensures more pages of your site are available to search engines to match against a wider range of search
queries. It also ensures that your visitors are taken directly to the pages on your site that match the content of
their search query.

Understanding Your Results
This report shows how well your page is displayed by different
browsers.
Your Rating is based on the number of problems we found.
Number of Problems shows how many problems affect at
least 10% of your visitors.

properties and values) that are incompatible with one or more
browsers. A red “N” box beneath a browser version indicates

that it does not support this tag/attribute combination.
The Visitors Affected column shows the percentage of your
audience affected by each tag/attribute problem.
A tag/attribute combination is listed in bold if it affects at least
10% of your audience.
If a browser does not support a tag, it will ignore it. This will
change the way your page looks.

Missing End Tag Before Another End Tag

This is an HTML content model violation. An open element which must be explicitly closed with an end
tag was encountered before another end tag. This problem may be caused by omission of a required end
tag for the open element or by transposition of end tags for nested elements.

Missing End Tag Before Another Start Tag

This is an HTML content model violation. The start tag of an element which cannot be nested in the
current open element was encountered before the open element was explicitly closed with an end tag.
This problem may be caused by omission of a required end tag for the open element tag.

Missing End Tag Before Start Tag

This is an HTML content model violation. The start tag of an element which cannot be nested in the
current open element was encountered before the open element was explicitly closed with an end tag.
This problem may be caused by omission of a required end tag for the open element or omitting the '/'
character in the end tag of the open element; thus creating a start tag for a subsequent element.

Unknown Tag Warning

The identified tag is unknown. This problem may be caused by a mis-spelling of the tag name.

Proprietary Tag Warning

The identified tag is proprietary to certain browsers. Check the Browser Compatibility Table to see for
which browsers the tag is compatible.

Unknown Attribute Warning

The identified attribute is unknown. This problem may be caused by a mis-spelling of the attribute name
or use of a deprecated attribute.

Proprietary Attribute Warning

The identified attribute is proprietary. Check the Browser Compatibility Table to see for which browsers
the tag/attribute pair is compatible.

Document Missing Head or Body Tag

A non-frameset HTML document should contain a HEAD and BODY section as shown in the following
HTML document fragment.

<HTML>
<HEAD> ... </HEAD>
<BODY> ... </BODY>
</HTML>

Page 29

29
The HEAD section contains such element as TITLE, BASE, META, SCRIPT and STYLE tags. The
BODY section contains other elements such text, images, links, tables and forms.

Missing Title Element

The HEAD section of an HTML document must contain a TITLE element. The contents of a TITLE
element are generally displayed at the top of the browser window frame presenting the HTML document.
For example, the text string "My Home Page" in the following HTML document fragment:

<HTML>
<HEAD>
<TITLE>My Home Page</TITLE>
</HEAD>
<BODY> ... </BODY>
</HTML>

would be displayed as a browser window title.

Tag Not Allowed In Element

This is a content model violation. According to HTML 4.0 Standard, the named tag cannot be contained
within the identified element.

Adjacent Hyphens Found in Comment

According to HTML standards, there must be at least one white space between the contents of a comment
element and the comment starting <!-- and ending --> delimiters. However, Cold Fusion uses <!--- and ---
> as the comment starting and ending delimiters respectively.

Unexpected End Tag in Element

This is a content model violation. An end tag for a previously closed element was encountered. This
error may be introduced by HTML Tidy when it implicitly closes an open element requiring an end tag in
order to prevent a content model violation by allowing the element immediately following the open
element to be contained in the open element.

Unescaped Ampersand or Unknown Entity

An '&' character was encountered which is not encoded as the named entity '&amp;' and does not denote a
known named entity. This situation usually occurs in a URL query string which contains "name=value"
items separated by a literal '&'. Browsers may attempt to replace the characters following a literal '&' with
a corresponding character entity when the URL is used as a value for an <A> tag HREF attribute.

SCRIPT Tag Missing TYPE Attribute

The HTML 4.0 Standard favours use of the TYPE attribute over the deprecated LANGUAGE attribute in
the SCRIPT tag. The syntax for an assigned value differs between the two attributes. For example, to
specify JavaScript or VBScript, LANGUAGE="JavaScript" and TYPE="text/JavaScript" or
LANGUAGE="VBScript" and TYPE="text/vbscript" respectively (please read NOTE below).
NOTE: Use of the TYPE attribute with the SCRIPT tag may be reported as unsupported by
Netscape/Firefox Browsers. To be safe, it is advisable to specify both TYPE and LANGUAGE
attributes with SCRIPT tags and disregard the browser compatibility error issued by HTML
Check.

Tag Missing Required Attribute

The required attribute must be defined for the identified tag.

Content Encountered After BODY Element

For non-frameset HTML documents, the only content permitted after the </BODY> end tag is the
</HTML> end tag.

Below are explanations of repairable problems identified in various warning and error messages.

Unknown Tag Error

The identified tag is unknown. This problem may be caused by a mis-spelling of the tag name. The
HTML source may be repaired by electing to strip, keep or comment the unknown tag.

Suspected Missing Quote Mark

A possible missing quote mark in the identified SCRIPT element prevents proper parsing of the HTML
document. The HTML document cannot be repaired until the missing quote mark is inserted, or a
spurious quote mark is removed by the document's author.

Missing '>' Symbol in HTML Tag Token

While parsing an HTML tag token, a '<' symbol denoting the start of another tag token was encountered
before the '>' symbol terminating the current tag token; which indicates a possible incomplete tag
specification. The HTML document cannot be repaired until the identified HTML tag token is corrected
by the document's author.

Duplicate FRAMESET

An HTML document can contain only one FRAMESET element, which itself can contain other
FRAMESET and FRAME elements. The HTML document cannot be repaired until the duplicate
FRAMESET is removed or nested within a single FRAMESET by the document's author.

Unknown Attribute Error

The identified attribute is unknown. This problem may be caused by a mis-spelling of the attribute name
or use of a deprecated attribute.

Invalid Attribute Error

Using the identified attribute with the given tag is not valid. This problem may be caused by a mis-
spelling of the attribute name or use of a deprecated attribute.

Unsupported Attribute Error

Using the identified attribute with the given tag is not supported by all browsers. This problem may be
caused by a mis-spelling of the attribute name, or use of a deprecated or proprietary attribute.

Invalid Attribute Name Error

A tag attribute name must begin with a letter (i.e., upper or lower case A through Z) and can only consist
of letters, digits (i.e., 0 through 9) and the hyphen, period, colon and underscore characters (i.e., "-", ".",
":" and "_" respectively).
