JMXBasedManagement Infrastructure
Web Server 7.0 management infrastructure is based onthe moderndistributed Java
Management Extensions (JMX
TM
) technology.JMXtechnology provides tools for building
distributed,web-based,modular and dynamic solutions for managing and monitoring devices,
applications, and service-drivennetworks.JMXhelps to manage and monitor instances,
configurations, and web applications across clustered Web Server deployments.
RedesignedAdministrationServer Interface
The AdministrationServer is a specially configured Web Server instance onwhich the
administrationapplications are deployed.Anadministrationinstance runs oneach node inthe
server farm.Of these nodes, one node is configured to be the AdministrationServer and the rest
are configured to be AdministrationNodes.
The web-based AdministrationServer is redesigned to make commontasks easier to access and
complex tasks easier to accomplish.

administration.
What's NewinThis Release
SunJava SystemWebServer Release Notes 7
Inthe earlier versions of Web Server, the configurationfiles inuserdb were shared by all
instances, while the informationcontained inthese files was ofteninstance-specific.InWeb
Server 7.0,configurationfiles fromthe userdb directory are removed.Their functionality is
incorporated into the server.xml file inthe config directory.Configurationfiles fromthe
alias and httpacl directories are moved into the config directory. These changes consolidate
instance-specific configurationinformationwithinthe instance-specific config directory.

TM
),
technology and supports a wide range of industry-standard and customized JDBCdrivers.
Web Server 7.0 supports JDBCconnectionpooling, that is,a group of reusable connections for
a particular database.Because creating each newconnectionis time consuming, the server
maintains a pool of available connections to increase performance.Whenanapplication
requests a connection,it obtains a connectionfromthe pool.Whenanapplicationcloses a
connection, the connectionis returned to the pool.
For informationoncreating JDBCconnectionpools, see the Sun Java SystemWeb Server 7.0
Administrator’s Guide.
JavaSE5.0and6.0Support

http://java.sun.com/webservices/downloads/2.0_preview_webservicespack.html
Lightweight SessionReplicationSupport
Web Server 7.0 supports cluster-based sessionreplicationand failover.Sessionreplicationand
failover provides high availability to web applications by replicating HTTPsessions fromone
server instance to another inthe same server cluster.Because each HTTPsessionhas a backup
copy ona remote instance,a server failure that renders one instance inthe cluster unavailable
does not disturb sessioncontinuity.
For more informationonLight Weight SessionReplicationsupport,Sun Java SystemWeb

Administration
The following table lists the knownissues inthe administrationof Web Server.
TABLE 4
KnownIssues inAdministration
ProblemID Description
6364924 Anode canbe registeredtomultiple administrationservers whichmay cause a
configurationconflict.
It is possible to register a node to a second AdministrationServer without canceling the
registrationwith the first AdministrationServer. However, this leads to the nodes becoming
inaccessible to both the AdministrationServers.
Workaround:
Oneach registration, restart the administrationnode. The administrationnode will be
available to the most recent AdministrationServer it has registered to.
6379125 wadmcommandallows connecting toa node,shows a certificate andthenthrows a
'HTTP400 Error'.
Whenanadministrationnode receives a connection, the administrationnode does not
check the connectionis fromthe AdministrationServer before proceeding. It not only prints
aninappropriate error message, but also prompts the user to enter the password.

TABLE 4
KnownIssues inAdministration (Continued)
ProblemID Description
4793938 User andpassworddialog presentedinsteadof directory index.
By default,Web Server 7.0 does not send a directory index unless the user has been
authenticated.Attempting to access a directory prompts the user to enter a user name and
password. This occurs because the default Access Control List (ACL) inWeb Server 7.0
grants the list access right only to authenticated users.
Workaround
You cangrant the list access right to unauthenticated users using the AdminConsole or by
editing the default.acl file. For more informationonhowto grant list access right, see
“Configuring Access Control” in Sun Java SystemWeb Server 7.0 Administrator’s Guide.
6327352 Sessionreplicationenabledinstances does not come upnormally,if other instances in
the cluster are not started.
6364702 wadmcommands donot returnvaliderror codes [0-125] whensuccess or failure.
6393534 After migrating the Java keystore keycerts using the migrate-jks-keycert command,
trying tolist the migratedjks keycerts using the list-certs command, displays the CN,org
andother informationinsteadof the certificate nickname.
6407486 While setting the SSLproperty using the wadmset-ssl-propcommand,the
server-cert-nickname property accepts any certificate nickname, insteadof accepting
only the server certificate nickname.
6439577 Does not prompt for the tokenpasswordwhenthe instance is startedfromthe wadm
commandprompt witha wrong token-pin.
6443742 The set-session-replication-propCLI commanddoes not workif the'node'optionis
providedwitha qualifieddomainname.
Workaround
Use the output of the list-nodes command for the valid names of the nodes inthe
set-session-replication-prop command.
6450360 The create-authdbcommanddoes not validate the URLat the time of the authentication
database (authdb) creation. The create-authdbcommandsuccessfully creates an
authenticationdatabase withthe wrong URL.
6450800 The get-error-log andthe get-access-log commands displays clutteredandimproper
messages.

modified.
Note –
The web applications deployedwithinthe instances'web-app directory shouldnot
create,delete,or modify files withinthe web application's context-root.If modified,the
AdministrationServer considers the instance to be modified. The deploy-config displays
anerror message.
Workaround
Either type the deploy-config command with --force option,or,type the pull-config
command.
6462040 The create-reverse-proxy CLI commandcreates anunnecessary newobj.conf file for the
default virtual server.
6464953 Setting digestauthstate property throughthe set-authdb-propCLI does not validate the
value andallows toset junk value for this property.
6467665 Migrating certificate withaninvalidfile pathusing the migrate-jks-keycert command,
prompts the user toenter the keystore-passwordandthe key-password.
6468570 Specifying"yes"at the wadmprompt crashes the CLI.
6469104 The create-selfsigned-cert commandallows youtodefine aninappropriate validity
periodwhile creating a server certificate.
6469109 The delete-cert commanddoes not delete a certificate whichis createdwithtoken"Sun
Software PKCS#11 softtoken".
6469676 Whenyoutry toconnect tothe AdministrationServer after the administration
certificates have expired, anincorrect error message is displayed.

6489779 Noerror message is displayedwhenyouexecute the list-group-members commandwith
aninvalidgroup-IDvalue.
6490728 Cannot set the rewrite-locationproperties using the set-reverse-proxy-propcommand.
You cannot set the -rewrite-location property to false. The value specified for the
-rewrite-location is not validated. For example, specifying the = symbol for the
i-rewrite-location optioncorrupts the obj.conf file and results inparser error.
6492315 The set-token-propcommandsets wrong passwords inthe server.xml file evenif the
tokenpinhas not beenspecified.
6492469 Incorrect error message is displayedonLDAPuser creationfailure.
6494353 If aninvalidnode name is specifiedwhile deleting aninstance, anincorrect error
message is displayed.
6494950 The register-node commandruns successfully withnonSSLport only inshell mode.
Inshell mode, typing the register-node command with the -no-ssloptionregisters the
node successfully as the command is falsely executed inthe SSL mode.
6405018 The get-jvm-prop commanddoes not print the commandwhenechois enabledinshell

6485965 If-modified-since processing is slow.
The server's handling of If-modified-since headers assumes that the header field value will
typically match a previously sent Last-modified header field value. This is true of normal,
real world clients. This is not true, however,of the SPECweb2005 driver.
6486480 service-nsfc-dumpentry hit counts are 0 with<replacement>false</replacement>.
If <replacement>false</replacement> is specified inserver.xml file, entry hit counts

correctly.
6489220 Server treats non-interpolatedstrings that contain$$ character constants as
interpolated.
When a parameter value contains a $$ escape, the server constructs a PblockModel for the
parameter block. This is unnecessary because $$ is a constant.

6492407 Front-endfile accelerator cache.
Depending onACLs and obj.conf configuration,a front end accelerator cache canservice
static file requests for URIs that were previously processed using NSAPI.The accelerator
cache must work with the default configuration.
6496332 File cache does not store small files onthe heapandsendlarge files withsendfilev.
With <sendfile>true</sendfile> inserver.xml, the server should use sendfilev() only
for files that does not fit inthe heap. This enables the server to use writev() for small files
and sendfilev() for large files.
6498452 Server shouldnot respondwith'413 Entity TooLarge'.
The server currently responds with a 413 Entity Too Large message when the request
header is too big.413 Entity Too Large message refers to the entity, not the header.
6498928 Output directives are not invokedfor 0-byte files.
Output directives are not invoked for 0-length responses unless
protocol_start_response() is called.send-file does not call

Migration
The following table lists the knownissues inthe migrationarea of Web Server 7.0.
TABLE 10
KnownIssues inMigration
ProblemID Description
6407877 Incorrect migrationoccurs while migrating fromWebServer 6.0 to7.0 if the
installed.pkg file is not found.
InWeb Server 6.0 to 7.0 migration,if the installed.pkg file is missing,Web Server
incorrectly migrates the NSServlet entries inthe magnus.conf file.
6490124 6.x ->7.0:Migratedscheduledevents still points to6.x paths inthe server.xml file.
6502529 6.1->7.0:Migrationdoes not handle relative pathset for search-collection-dir correctly.
During instance migration, specifying a relative path for the target path into which the
search collections should be copied, results inthe search collectiondirectory being created
with respect to the config-store.Whenthe instance is instantiated, the indexes are created
without properly migrating the search collections.
6502769 6.x->7.0:Migrationignores any"document-root"NameTrans specifiedinthe obj.conf
file.
6498806 OnWindows,WebServer AdminConsole does not appropriately warnusers during
migration.
AdministrationServer does not detect if the selected newconfigurationor the service name
already exists onWindows and hence does not appropriately warnthe users to select a
different configurationname or suggest a different configurationname as default.
6500509 WebServer 7.0 migrationtool is unable tosuccessfully migrate fromWebServer 6.1 if it
has Root Certs installedinit.

shtml include entries. This however works fine with the user in.htaccess file has
"restricted by user"option.
6376901 Limitationsupporting basic anddigest-basedACLs for resources inthe same directory.
If the server uses digest and basic-based ACLs indifferent parts of their doc tree, attempting
to use both simultaneously ondifferent files or resources inthe same directory is not
possible.
6431287 TLS_ECDH_RSA_* require the server cert signedwithRSAkeys.
Cipher suites of the formTLS_ECDH_RSA_* requires server to have anECCkeypair with a
cert signed using RSAkeys.Note that this precludes using these cipher suites with
self-signed certificates. This requirement is inherent to these cipher suites and is not a bug.
The server should detect and warnabout wrong configurations related to these cipher suites
but currently it does not do so.
