Assignment 6

Initial Project Plan with Resource Assignment

Background

In Assignment 4
and Assignment 4b, a Work Breakdown Structure (WBS) was developed. That WBS was
used in Assignment 5 to prepare the initial cost plan and draft task network with modifications to the
WBS made as necessary.

Students will use the initial cost plan and draf
t task network prepared in Assignment 5 as inputs to be
modified with the assignment of specific personnel resources.

Problem Scenario:

The Yons Corporation has decided to implement a new electronic (i.e., computer
-
based) project
management application s
ystem (name PROM). After conducting the necessary due diligence, the
company has identified and selected a COTS (commercial off the shelf) software tool. The product has
been acquired and a project to install and deploy it has been initiated. The projec
t (name YPM) has now
entered the planning stage.

The project management tool (PROM) that was selected features thin
-
client architecture and is built upon
an IBM DB2
®

database. Yons’ environment features Microsoft Windows
©
-
based clients, an IBM
mainframe
server with the AIX
®

operating system, and the most recent version of DB2
®
. Project
management histories from previous project exist in both electronic and non
-
electronic formats.

The YPM project will involve the following: (i) installation and checkout

of PROM; (ii) data conversion of
electronic project history data; (iii) determination and disposition of non
-
electronic project history data;
(iv) user documentation and training; (v) user acceptance testing; and, (vi) deployment.
