Concrete Structure Project

My design of a concrete structure was to design a parking structure. I decided to
model my structure after a parking structure here on the USC campus. The dimensions of
this parking structure are 260 feet wide
by 200 feet long and the structure is 84 feet high,
with each floor 14 feet high.
It is made of concrete beams and columns and also concrete
slabs. The concrete columns are reinforced.
There was no elevation change for this
project so it is assumed to b
e on level ground.
This project was first designed in Autocad
then transferred to SAP.

Here is a picture of the parking structure in Autocad.

The design of this structure is as follows. The
concrete columns are 2 ft by 2 ft with 5
bars of reinforceme
nt. The concrete beams are 1.25ft by .75ft. I chose to make the slabs
1 ft thick and applied a uniform live load of 150 psf.

Wind and snow load were not taken
into consideration because there is no risk of snow in this area and wind is not a major
facto
r.

After completing
this design I analyzed the structure to make sure it had the necessary
strength. This structure had the necessary strength so next I checked for over design.
The structure passed both of these tests with the following results.

maximum moments are occurring on the outside of the building but on the opposite sides
that the maximum stress are acting

This picture is showing the maximum stress in the structure. It can be seen that the
maximum stresses on the building are acting on the outside of the structure.

I printed the joint displacements and the principle stress on the slabs to tables which I
included in the appendix.

Appendix

I only included the first 50 results for each table because the length of each is
tremendous.

Joint displacements table, the maximum deflection from the table is approximately .25
inches which is very good for a parki
ng structure.
