preformed and manufactured from vulcanized elastomeric
compound using polymerized chloroprene as the only base polymer.



B.

The design, dimensions and dimensional tolerances of the seal shall

Drawings.

D.

The seals shall be marked with the name or suitable trademark of the
Manufacturer and the date of production at intervals of
not more than 4
feet. On the top surface of the seals, a mark shall be placed at every 1
foot interval, sufficiently clear and durable to enable making length
measurements on each seal after installation.



E.

The containers in which the seals are package
d for shipment shall be
clearly marked with the name of the Manufacturer and the date of
manufacture of the material contained therein.



F.

The lubricant
-
adhesive used when installing the preformed joint seals
shall be a compound consisting of the same b
ase polymer as the seals,
unless otherwise approved, blended with suitable volatile solvents. It
shall have suitable consistency at the temperature at which the seals are
to be installed, shall be compatible with the seals and the concrete, and
shall be r
elatively unaffected by the normal moisture in the concrete.



G.

The Construction Manager reserves the right to sample and test joint
seals and lubricant
-
adhesive materials at any time prior to or after
delivery.

PART 3

EXECUTION


3.01

EXECUTION



A.

Where indicated and noted on the Drawings, seals shall be installed in a
neat, workmanlike manner. All surfaces to receive elastomeric
compression seal shall be free from dirt, water, oil, rust, frost and any
othe
r loose foreign debris which may be detrimental to effective joint
sealing.



B.

All joints to receive elastomeric compression seal shall be free from
defects such as spalls, cracks or loose materials.



C.

The joint sides shall be constructed straight and

parallel to each other to
the proper width and depth as shown on the Drawings.



D.

Unless otherwise specified, elastomeric seal to be installed shall be
recessed as directed by the Construction Manager.



E.

Temperature at time of joint construction dete
rmines the width of the
working joint. Contractor shall form the joint allowing for temperature
variations shown in the Table on the Drawings.

F.

For ease of installation, the air temperature shall be below 85
o
F. At high
temperatures, the joint opening

closes to such a degree that the seal
becomes difficult to insert.



G.

Apply a continuous coat of adhesive to both joint interfaces immediately
prior to seal installation. Adhesive shall not be applied below 40
o
F.
