The goal of the experiment: to solve a problem connected with
collimation of instruments

and systems of the station, investigate
deformation of the ISS casing, highly
-
precise orientation of scientific instruments

in spatio.


Subject of research:

The subject of research within experiment

Privyazka

is taking place deformation of the ISS casing,
disalignment of instruments
and
systems on the station, as well as techniques to disclose and take them into account.


Rese
arch techniques:

-

detailed processing and analysis of the telemetry data from operational sensing elements of the Motion Control System;

-

correlation of the received data with calculated ones according to available mathematical models to identify deforma
tion of the
casing,
disalignment of
ISS instruments and systems
taking place
during flight;

-

analysis of the obtained results with respect to their application to (a) ISS flight control, (b) implementation of the
Program of
Scientific and Applied Research

and Experiments on the Russian Segment of the ISS and (c)

new spacecraft projection and
development.


The equipment used:

Nominal equipment of the ISS Motion Control System and scientific tools installed on the ISS Russian Segment are employed for

this ex
periment.

What was done on ISS:


By the moment of the Space Experiment termination complete information was received during 152 (out of 168) sessions. 3
sessions gave about 60 % of the information bec
ause of failures in the telemetry line. 2 sessions completely failed due to incorrect
timing of the data. 3 sessions generated no telemetry information and one session had no information about orientation. It ha
s
been received about 73 Mb of telemetry dat
a.


The scientific results:




The obtained results agree with the available data calculated during operation of space stations
Salyut
and
Mir

. As well as in case
of the previous stations, there take place angular mismatches of instruments` sensitive ax
es within the range of about
1÷2 °
due
to deformations of the ISS casing
.

Nevertheless, the new results obtained from experiment

Privyazka

give additional capabilities
for flight control, accomplishment of experiments and analysis of the obrained research
results. The additional capabilities and
results are connected to both features of the ISS having large dimensions and complex structure relatively to the previous sp
ace
stations and new techniques and algorithms for this space experiment data processing.


The Future:

The specified program of Scientific and Applied Research onboard the ISS
-
RS

starting from

2010 (space experiment
Napor
,

etc.) contains experiments which will require to take into account deformation of the station structure and
collimatio

allowances. That is why STAC Section “Technical Research and Experiments” made a decision about ahead
-
of
-
schedule end

and transfer its goals to a new multiple space experiment

MKS

(Environment


ISS). Herewith all
results o
f experiment

will be utilized in the course of experiment
Sreda

MKS
.


Significance of the gained results:

The results of the SE will be used for improving accuracy of orientation of ISS
-
installed scientific instruments, planning and
performance o
f qualitative analysis of research experiments which need, for instance, exact pointing of instruments at objects
under investigation or high accuracy knowledge of the spatial position. Besides, the results of the experiment

can be used for
other spacecraf
t development and control and conducting research and experiments which require maintenance (and/or
knowledge) of precise spatial position of instruments.


The obtained results were used to edit 2 papers.
