Technological advances are providing us with the capability to integrate more and
more fu
nctionality into a single chip.

With the increasing complexity of today’s

designs have to be modeled at a high level of abstraction before
partitioning into hardware and software components for final implementation.
SystemC is a system level mo
deling language useful for VLSI design. It provides
various features to perform system level modeling and simulation, which are missing
in the generic HDL’s such as VHDL and Verilog.

In this paper I will focus on the
benefit of the SystemC technology, and
present the method to design VLSI system
using SystemC

They are driving a need for more effective system
level methods.

SystemC is becoming widely accepted as a platform for modeling systems consisting
of both hardware and software components. SystemC is an open C++ class lib
used for hardware system design and validation. The SystemC class libraries add
hardware attributes to the C++ language. The increasing trend towards the use of
C/C++ languages as a unified modeling tool and for building executable
specifications driv
es the momentum behind the adoption of SystemC against other
hardware description languages (HDLs) such as VHDL or Verilog.

In this article, the authors will present the design innovations of the SystemC
Hardware Description Language, and present some int
eractive case studies of the
Digital System Designs, such as Counters, Shift Registers, Arithmetic Logic Units

and provide a scope for an extended micro controller.
