In recent years, along with the increasing adoption of industrial equipment that supports
machine vision, there are strong demands particularly for high-speed and accurate image
transmission, and the transmission format is rapidly changing to high-speed digital transmission.
The main interfaces for this kind of transmission are Camera Link, IEEE1394.a/IEEE1394.b,
and Gigabit Ethernet. Each of these interfaces has the following features.
This interface is ranked as the digital interface which currently permits the largest capacity digital
images to be easily handled. Consequently, it is becoming a standard digital interface for machine
vision.
This is a high-speed general purpose serial interface. A daisy chain type, a star type, or a type
consisting of a mixture of both are used depending upon the bus connection. This enables multiple
cameras to be driven simultaneously to configure an image processing system, thus realizing
applications which utilize expandability.
This interface, which is based on Ethernet technology, was standardized for machine vision use such
as technological industrial equipment and industrial robots. It is considered that the market for this
interface will expand rapidly in the future.
Oki Electric Cable is striving to meet the requirements of these main digital interfaces for machine
vision, and in addition is engaged in the development and commercialization of interface cables
intended specifically for FA applications which have high bending performance and high-speed
transmission performance.

Excellent transmission characteristics
These cables employ a unique uniform construction and
materials, resulting in the following features.
 Low attenuation, low cross-talk, and low skew
 Uniform characteristic impedance in the length

 Ability to extend the transmission distance to more
than the standard distance (IEEE1394.a cables, and
IEEE1394.b cables)

These cables use plastic tape coated with a metal film
as an internal pair shield. Also, the entire inside of the
cables is shielded with braided wire, making for
additional noise immunity.
High moving durability
Oki Electric Cable performs various unique durability tests and quality evaluations on movable
cables which are required to have high durability.
These cables are highly resistant to bending and twisting. Consequently, they almost never break,
even when used in applications where they are moved, and also undergo little change in impedance,
enabling them to be used for high-grade image signal transmission.

 Five types of cables are available, and also three optimum connector combinations can be selected to match the
performance of the camera used as well as the particular application.
 These cables can perform high-grade transmission of signals at a clock frequency of 85 MHz over a maximum length
of 7 m (low-skew high-sliding type). (as reference condition)
 They can be used in a moving environment such as a robot (high-sliding type).
 All types conform to the UL standards, and have VW-1 fire retardant characteristics.
 All types are environmentally friendly, and conform to RoHS directives.

 Fully insert the connector. Also, take care that an excessively large tensile force is not applied to the connector.
 Switch OFF the power before connecting or disconnecting the connector.
 When connecting or disconnecting the connector, pull the connector in such a way that it is parallel to the mating
connector. If you gouge the connector, or repeatedly insert and pull it out to an excessive degree, the housing or pins
may become damaged.
