Up Networking Configuration Instructions



Installing the Dial
-
up Networking Software


Click on
START
, Settings, Open the Control
Panel.


Double
-
click the Add/Remove Programs icon.


Select the Windows Setup tab.


Select the Communications
option.


Choose details....






Select the Dial
-
up Networking option.


Make sure that the Dial
-
Up Networking is checked.


Click Ok to return to Add/Remove Programs / Properties.


Click Ok, wait while Windows copies files to your hard
drive.

u’ll see this next screen and be told to restart your machine.
WAIT!

Proceed through the following steps and restart
after you’ve completed them. You will re
-
boot later. Click OK to proceed.




Install the TCP/IP drivers



Open the Control Panel.


D
ouble

click on the Network icon.


If the TCP/IP protocol appears in the list of
installed components, proceed to:


Binding TCP/IP Driver to Dial
-
Up Network


If not, choose Add...






Select Protocol.


Choose Add...

Click on Microsoft in the
list of vendors.


Select TCP/IP in the list of protocols.


Choose Ok....






You will return to the Network dialog box.


Choose Ok to copy the proper files to your hard
drive.

Once again, you will be notified about
restarting your mach
ine.


Choose
NO

and continue to the next step.





Binding TCP/IP driver to Dial
-
up
Network


Select the Dial
-
Up Adapter in the list of installed
network components.


Choose properties...

Click on the bindings tab.


Make sure that the bind
ing TCP/IP
--
> Dial
-
Up
Adapter is
checked
.


Click on the Advanced tab....







Select IPX header compression.


Change the Value to
NO
.


(This will allow Pegasus Mail to operate
correctly)


Click on Ok.

Reboot your Computer


Click the Start b
utton.


Select Shut Down.


Choose Restart.


Click OK.





Define a Connection and Set
Properties


Double
-
click on the My Computer icon on
the desktop.


Open the Dial
-
Up Networking folder.


Click on Make New Connection.


This screen will appear.


Click on

next....






Define the new connection as:


Vector Internet


Select the definition of your modem.


Click Next....

Enter the phone number of the modem
pool:

Click Next..

Click Finish.

An icon will appear in the Dial
-
up Networking
folder representing your new connection.


Right
-
click on the Vector Internet icon.


Select Properties.








Click on server type....

Select PPP: Windows 95,

Windows NT, Internet
from the drop
-
down list.


Un
-
check Log on to network and Require
encrypted password if they are checked.


Un
-
check Netbuei and IPX/SPX if they are
checked.


Click on TCP/IP Settings....









Click on Specify name server address.


Fill in the following address for the Primary DNS:



209.98.98.98


Fill in the following address for the Secondary
DNS:



198.6.1.2



Click OK three times to close and save your
settings.


All done! Proceed onto
Dial Away
.

Dial away...


Now, you're ready to connect. Here's
how:


Open the Dial
-
Up Networking folder.


Double
-
click the Vector Internet icon.


Enter your login name and password
as supplied on your user account
sheet. Remember to add the .ppp
extension
to the login name!


Click connect. Wait for the
connection to be completed.






Hanging up

All good things must come to an end...


Open the Dial
-
Up Networking folder.


Double
-
click the icon representing the defined connection.


Click disconnect.
