Join Next Year’s PTO
Board!

We are now accepting
nominations for the 2011
-
2012 Executive Board! The
PTO Executive Board
positions are leadership roles
that help make decisions
regarding fundraisers, cultural
arts programs, and additional
events at Miscoe. All
Executive Board positio
ns are
open for
election on an
annual basis.

We currently do
not have
nominees for several key
positions, including President,
Secretary, and Treasurer,
which are necessary to keep
the PTO in operation.

Getting involved in the PTO
is a great way to sta
y
connected and to learn more
about the school and meet
new parents.

For more
information please refer to our
Bylaws, which can be found
on our website. Please
contact Christine McWilliams
or any current Board member
at

Staff Appreciation

Luncheon

This year’s luncheon for the
Miscoe Staff, baseball
-
themed
“Spring Training,”
was

held
on May 4
th
during National
Teacher Appreciation Week.
Many thanks to

all of the
volunteers that made this day
possible, especially to
Mary
Anne Murphy, Deb Neri,
and
Robyn Sharp

for co
-
chairing this event!
The smell
of sausages and peppers and
hot dogs filled the air at
“Miscoe Hill Ball Park” (aka
room 319!) which was
transformed in
to a festive
stadium, complete with “fans”
and make
-
your
-
own sundaes.
We are thankful for our
Miscoe staff and to all of you
who helped to show our
appreciation for them.

6th Grade Cryogenics
Program

On May 16th at 10:00 am, the
PTO will be sponsoring a

program about Cryogenics for
t
he 6th grade classes.

Presented

by the Museum of
Science,

the program provides
live demonstrations

about
cryogenics and the

core ideas
about heat

energy and

transfer,

as well as

the
differences

between
the three main
mecha
nisms of heat
transfer: conduction,
convection, and radiation.
Students will

discover that all
elements have specific
melting and

boiling points,
will see that light or even
water can incinerate a piece of
paper, and will learn ways
to

differentiate betwee
n two
cryogenic liquids.

sponsored by the Miscoe Hill
PTO,

on April 28th.

Students
and staff were riveted by
Helen Keller, her struggles,
and her success in learning
how to speak and read in
B

Helen's

inspiring story
taught the

audience to
understand and accept the
different ways people do the

Scholastic Book Fair

Thank you to all the student

Spring Book Fair in April,

and

especially to
Carole
Belair

for chairing this

event!
All profits went

right back
into the classrooms and the
Miscoe Library in the form of
Scholastic Books. Thanks to
your generosity, we were able
to give every teacher and
speciali

of
Scholastic Book

materials of their choice. T

new books as well.

5
th

Graders Captivated
by Ben Franklin

On April 4th, Benjamin
Frankl
in visited the 5th Grade
students and staff.

Through
this dramatization of

his life,
students were encouraged to
ask, as Ben Franklin often did,
"I wonder if..." a question
which may le
a
d students to
their own discoveries or
inventions.

In addition to th
e simple
wonder of static electricity,
students were introduced to
the basic scientific process.
Ben Franklin's story was
inspiring and entertaining.
Thanks to your generosity, the
PTO is able to provide such
curriculum enhancing
programs for our students
.

you will NOT pay sales tax on

your orders. In turn, Miscoe
