module. The passive module will check the spectrum for interferers. Because this is the only
function for the passive modul
e, there is a lot of overhead. Also the cost for the passive RF
module is very high to do only this scan function. The idea is to create a simple and cheap RF
scan module.

Detecting and resolving errors and defects is of extreme importance in a conference system.
A
defective unit, a failure in the network etc need to be detected in time in order to take the
necessary measures. The idea is to make the diagnostic information t
hat is already known
available for mobile users (smartphones, web service, SMS,…)

Error information is already available in the central unit of the conference system and via an
API this can be communicated to other devices.

The development of this applicat

when it comes to implementing complete embedded systems along with important periphera
l
functions. The reconfigurable logic circuitry of an FPGA offers tremendous flexibility. A
lesser known feature is that the outputs of a digital FPGA also permit various analogue
applications.

Next

generation infotainment systems call for a uniformly open
, scalable, flexible and reliable
architecture, which also offers an attractive price

performance ratio. The parameterisable
infotainment system PARIS from Altera has already shown how the system costs of a head
unit can be greatly reduced by means of inte

In order to test the beamforming audio algorithms offline it is necessary to collect PCM audio
data in function of the lighting angl
e. Up until no
w this has to be

done manually: set angle via
stepper motor on AP SYS2722 and then measure via Adobe Audition. This could be done
automatically with the right software and a small adjustment of the stepper motor.

Now only processed data can be measured
wit
h the Audio Precision AP2722
such as
amplitude, distortion in function of frequency and polar angle. This is done automatically and
gives highly reproducible measurements. F
or the evaluation of a finished

system these
measurements are
sufficient. In case t
he algorithm for eg. Beamforming still needs to be
evaluated on sample level then this way of measuring is not sufficient as one has no access to
the audio samples.
With the right software that can read out the audio samples of a
multichannel soundcard
(with ASIO drivers) + that can control a USB based stepper motor,
this could be possible. The stepper motor can be based on the existing hardware + a DL2322
(FTDI) module. Software can be written in Visual studio 20xx express C++/C
#. For the

The next question is not determined in
advance but is chosen at runtime based o

the level of the user can be determined after a series of exercises.

First you will need to analyze how we can use adaptivity and Item Response Theory in
Edumatic 3. It will be necessary to appoint a dif
ficulty level to the exercises. This can be done
for example by processing data from the past but also by adjusting the difficulty level to
newly acquired data.

reliability reasons that a safe fall back circuitry guarantees the essential functions. In the
current systems, this fall back circuitry is based on DC

distribution. The purpose of this thesis is to expand the possibilities and performance of the
circuitry by means of application of DSP techniques in a FPGA. The first part is dedicated to
the efficient implementation of an echo canceller. In addit

important aspect. Packets can go lost and there is no guarantee that the audio message has
arrived correctly at the target audience. The purpose of this thesis is to dev
elop an efficient
diagnostics algorithm on a DSP platform. The algorithm assesses the understandability and
informs the speaker if the audio quality has been compromised. As this is an embedded
system, the footprint of the algorithm must be optimized. Th

supported by a demonstrator based on existing hardware.

conditioned. This conditioning allows an understandable audio signal to reach the target
audience for a wide

variation of the input signal. In addition some signal improvement

popping and noise gating can also be performed. The purpose of this
thesis is to improve and expand the capabilities of the dynamic processor by introducing
predi
ction techniques, expanding the dynamic input range and using weighted level detection.
As the target is an FGPA, the footprint shall be kept minimal.

Continuous ambient noise measurement algorithm in a train
environment.

The ambient noise level inside a train can var
y depending on the speed and passengers that
are present in the cars. In the current system an ambient noise measurement is performed
before an audio broadcast is done. This allows the broadcast level to be automatically
adjusted in function of the ambie
nt noise. This method has the disadvantage that no long term
or continuous audio broadcast can be performed with automatic gain control. The purpose of
this thesis is to develop an reliable algorithm that measures the ambient noise level while an
audio b
roadcast is performed. The implementation will first be done on a DSP processor, in a
later stage porting can be done to a FPGA with a small footprint. In addition a method can be
developed for auto


calibration of the system.

applications, reliability is very important. A part of ensuring the reliability is to
perform a stress analysis on component level and ensuring that these are below a certain level.
In the current design chain, the stress analysis is a manual operation.

The purpose of the
thesis is to automate the major part of the analysis by extracting data from the netlist and
component database and generating a filled in report. Other sources such as simulations can
also be involved to calculate the more complicated

sections.

Implementation of SoC architecture in FPGA.

design on an FPGA for live streaming video in trains. Additionally, an LVDS interface will be

existing content management system, which is used by train operators in

Design and usage of a communication channel monitor and adapter.

n order to test the robustness of the software drivers and applications and evaluate the
dependency on signal integrity, new systems (DUT1 commu
nication to DUT2 in two
directions) will be tested using a channel adapter and monitor. The purpose of this proposal is
increase quality of software and to see if the software reacts correctly to errors.

The system will be able to add jitter/packet loss/s
pikes/etc. being programmed by a USB
interface. PC Software will enable the features and select the protocol

ID, to be able to issue
errors depending on protocol properties.

The monitor can be installed on board a train to log a complete journey for field

debugging
purposes.

The application needs to be layered as the interface could change. So the us

Real time information results in some real time requirements. A good analysis of these
requirements should result in a responsive application which is not perceived slow to the user.
