.
Both Small Wheels will be lowered into the cavern fully
integrated and tested. This Work Package focuses on the connection and certification of chamber
service
s to various patch
-
panels on the periphery of the Small Wheels.


Key subtasks involved are:


A) Inspection of any damage and repair following transport and placement in UX15.


B) Connection and certification of all services to the small wheels.


This wo
rk encompasses the following items
-

Connection and certification of gas services for the
MDT and CSC systems. In both cases a mixture of Ar and CO2 is used. The work involves
connecting the flex lines routed in the SW schleps to the gas patch
-
panels on th
e sides of the SWs.
Connection and certification of the cooling water for the CSC on
-
chamber electronics. This involves
connection of the flexible water pipes routed in the SW schleps to the water patch
-
panel mounted on
the side of the SWs. Connection and
certification of the HV cable services to the MDT and CSC
systems. Connection and certification of the LV cables and Mesh Grounds for the MDT and CSC
systems. Connection and certification of Alignment cables for the MDT and CSC systems.
Connection and cer
tification of Fiber Optical lines for the MDT and CSC readout systems.
Connection and certification of the DCS cables for the SWs.


C) Commissioning of the MDT, CSC and alignment systems

Service

MDT, CSC and alignment systems on the
Small Wheels.


Access will be from platforms i
nside the barrel toroid and by the large nacelle. The access points will
be on the outer rim of the SW (see figure below).


The work does not require use of hazardous gases or liquids.

A quick visual inspection after SW arrives at Point 1 after transport from
B191 to see if there is any damage on the M
DTs, CSCs and alignment
systems. Also the MDT gas pressure will be checked and recorded. HV
(up to 3080V) will be applied to ensure no major problem in MDT
chambers.

Above tests will be carried out as long as there is time slot available after
SWs arrive
at Point 1 before they are lowered to UX15. In case there of
limited time in SX1 then only visual inspection will be done.

been lowered down to the pit to
see if there is any damage on the MDT, CSC or alignment systems. Also
the gas pressure will be checked and recorded, and HV (up to 3080V if
the gas pressure is 3 bar) will be applied to the MDT system to ensure no
major prob
lem in MDT sector. If there is sufficient time (significant delay
before connecting the cable schleps and LV cables with extensions) then
temporary LV, HV, DCS cables and fiber will be connected, DAQ and
PVSS readout will be done with HV on.

Perform initial check out of SW chamber alignment.

Verify that there is light at the UX15 end of the fibers.

Connect the fiber
s from schlep to PP at SW sector

9 (see picture below)

Repair/replace any faulty fibers after commissioning tests are done

Connect the two large white DCS cables from the schlep to the DCS
splitter boxes at SW sector

9 (see picture below).

2)

Verify that the grounding is properly done.

3)

If LV has been connected to the relevant MDT chambers an
initialization and readback test should be performed.

4)

Check that the MDT chambers have been initialized.

5)

Check that all relevant s
ensors are reading back correctly.

The copper grounding cable on the SW frame should be securely
connected to the ATLAS ground at the sector 13 LV PP. It may be
necessary to make a temporary connection with the SW in the outer
posit
ion and the permanent one once the SW has been moved to the closed
position.
