If you are using Rdb on Digital Unix, you cannot perform this upgrade. You must continue to use CONNX
for Rdb Version 7.0.

Server Software Requirements

is necessary to use the earlier version 7 release, or a future release.

Configuration Recommendations

Installing as shared images

For best performance and
reduced system overhead, it is strongly recommended to install Rdb as shared
images. Setting up Rdb SQL is discussed in the
Oracle

Rdb Installation and Configuration Guide

in
section 3.9 “Installing Oracle Rdb Images as Shared”.

For mo
st persons, the answer to this question will be “YES!” To learn reasons why the upgrade is

Steps to perform the upgrade:

Using ordinary ftp or a web browser, attach to ftp site

in as anonymous.


Give your email address as the password.

Change directory to connx7 by clicking on it.


Collect the upgrade program and documentation:


When you click on the program, you may see a form similar to this:

n the ‘OK’ button, and choose a directory to download into:


Choose ‘Save’ and when completed you may get a popup like this:


Repeat this process until the following files have been gathered:

CNX71UPG.exe

CONNX 7.1 User Guide.doc

CONNX 7.1 User Guide.pdf

Rdb 7.1 Release Notes.doc

Rdb 7.1 Upgrade Instructions.doc


Once you have collected these files, using either a web browser or ordinary ftp, it will be necessary to run
the install program.


Run the
CNX71UPG.exe

program.


When started, y
ou will see a form similar to this:

Then, you will see the upgrade sign

When you select ‘Next’ you will see the following information panel:

After clicking next again, you will see this:


At this point, enter the special password you we
re given in an email message.


This will be the next form that you see:


Normally, you should just use the defaults.

You will be asked where to install CONNX for the options you have selected. Unless you chose unusual
locations before, you can just st
ick with the defaults.

After selecting all of the installation locations, the install program will begin the actual upgrade:


The install process indicators will show progress as the file transfers run to completion. Do not
be alarmed
if the install pauses for a few seconds. Some operations (such as icon creation) are rather slow.

After this stage has completed, it will be necessary to upgrade the OpenVMS server at least once.



Fill out the options

as appropriate for your location. Your options should be exactly the same as the first
time that you installed the previous product. If you are unable to determine the correct options, please call
technical support at 888

Click the ‘Done’ button on the installer, and go to the OpenVMS machine, logging in with the same
account that you used for the install process. Run the batch file @CNXINST.COM and examine the log
file . If you see messages like this:

These normally do not indicate failure. The

means that the messages are only informational.

You may possibly also see a warning on the link sta
tement. If it is complaining about a multiply defined
symbol, with a message with a format similar to this:
