35 teachers-researchers, 3 CNRS researchers, 12 technical and
administrative staff and 40 PhD students carry out their research in
mechanical engineering within 5 teams.

FORMATION BY RESEARCH
As a part of the University of Poitiers, the
laboratory includes 40 PhD students and 20
master degree students.
Furthermore, our laboratory is very close to
all mechanical teachings which are given by
most of us in the University of Poitiers.

Mechanics Team
The Research interest of the team relates to the study of the behaviour of
fluid films in the lubricated contacts taking into account the rheological,
dynamic and thermal phenomena of the lubricants and the surrounding
structures. Generally based on the theory of lubrication, these studies
are often carried out in collaboration with other laboratories and/or
the support of industrial partners. The Lubricated Contact Mechanics
team develops numerical modelling and performs experiments on original
test rigs. Its work often leads to the realisation of powerful research
softwares.
The team includes five professors, three assistant professors, two CNRS researchers,
master degree and PhD students.
Research allows the study of industrial machine components such as journal and thrust
bearings, squeeze film dampers and seals for liquid and gas.

The team includes eight teachers-researchers tribologists and several
PhD students.The research interest of the team relates to
lubricated connections as well as solids behaviour in dry contacts.
Half of the team is concerned with TEHD* problems which
are induced by the connections in the thermal engines.

This test rig is a tool for connecting
rods bearings optimisation,
from hybrid vehicles to F1.

The other part of the team is concerned with tribological problems
in EHD contacts and also with wear problems.
The rolling contact fatigue relates to mechanisms such as
the gears teeth, cams, the wheel-rail system...
The experimentation makes it possible to study in-depth
and from every angle these cracks.

Taking into account of thin coatings and
microgeometry in the contacts requires
particular methods of modelling.
The unstabilities due to friction lead to some problems.
They are experimentally studied with a photoelastic model.

A destructive test is carried out on a micro scratching
machine in order to characterise the adherence of thin
coatings as DLC, TiN, SiC which are deposited on metal
substrates (cutting tools...)
