The
National VET

Content repository
is a bank of free learning objects available for teachers and
trainers to download for use with their learners.


Over
2000

learning objects supporting a range of industries, training p
ackages and competency
units are currently available in the repository. Learning objects range in size with some supporting
units of competency and others at task level supporting one or more performance criteria.


All of these learning objects provide the

same type of engaging e
-
learning found in Toolboxes.
Content is available from over
100
Toolboxes which
support the delivery of over 800 units of
competency

from

nationally endorsed training packages.


The
repository
also
includes the Flexible Learning To
olboxes, as well as
e
-
learning games

that

address national skills shortages
,

and
tutorials on how to customise learning objects.

Searching


The National VET Content website makes it easy to search for learning objects and Toolboxes.
You
can
browse entire categories by selecting one of the images on the left of the Dashboard screen.




Or you can use the
main search

bar in the middle of the page.

Enter your query in the bar, then press ‘

My Favourites


If there are items in the National VET Content that you access often, mark them as favourites so
that you can easily find them in the My Favourites view.

You can mark any item as a favourite. You can favourite an item in the item list (detailed view
only

this feature does not appear in the simple view) or on the details page.




All items that have not been marked as a favourite display a star outline:

When you do a search

To preview
a
learning object

form the search result pag
e
,
simply select its thumbnail.

The learning
object will be displayed in a new window (or tab).


To download it,

follow the procedure below.

over the thumbnail and select the icon with the red arrow pointing down.




2.

When prompted, select ‘Save file’ and

‘OK’. The following shows the prompt in Firefox.

Accessing the details page of a learning object


1.

Navigate to the details page of the learning object by selecting its title on the list of search
results.

Previewing and downloading a learning object from its details page


To preview or download a learning object from its details page, simply select
button ‘Preview’ or
‘Download’ on the right of the page.




If you choose to preview th
e object, it will be displayed in a new window (or tab). If you choose to
download the object, you will be prompted to save the file on your computer.


Accessing and playing the learning object


1.

Locate where you saved the learning object

.zip


file using Windows Explorer or another
similar program and double click the file to unzip it

(also called extracting) into a new folder.


The Toolbox learning objects will have a similar structure to the image below. All will contain a
number of

.xml


and ‘.xsd’
files which may be required for the learning object to be used in a
learn
ing

management system. Please do not delete these files.
