Who we're looking for

We are looking for a software developer to work with us in building the next
generation of ou
r system. You should be the kind of person who is passionate about
programming and who takes pride in writing beautiful code. You should enjoy the
challenge of learning and developing new technologies to run a world class, high
traffic, high availability s
ystem which will power the internet of things.


You will be a key part of a tight
-
knit team developing the high availability systems
which handle millions of requests daily and will play an important role in helping to
define the future development directi
on of this innovative technology company.


Required

skills and experience:



* A computer science background with a sound knowledge of the theoretical side
of computer science


* Good real
-
world network programming experience, putting the theories in
to
practice


* Ruby experience, preferably including Rails and EventMachine


* Experience with other languages, e.g Scala, Erlang. Able to use the right tool
for the job.


* Database design
-

ideally having had experience of high transaction level
s,
particularly with PostgreSQL, but also with more recent NoSQL databases, e.g
Cassandra, HBase


* Used to working in a test
-
driven development environment


* Comfortable with version control and release management; e.g. Git


* Experienced in HT
ML, Javascript and CSS


* Comfortable with deployment management, e.g. Capistrano


* Good team worker who is self
-
motivated


In addition to this list of must
-
haves, it will be beneficial if you have some or all of the
following:



* An enthusiasm
for the developing field of the internet of things


* Understanding of high
-
availability systems and the concepts behind them


* Experience of performance optimisation


* An interest in embedded connected devices


* Linux System administration
