Rapid prototyping on devices
A statement on Intuitive Company’s website nicely sums up its approach—and
success—in building web applications, mobile apps, responsive websites, and
desktop software: pretty is pretty useless without function. With its expertise
in uniting form and function, Intuitive Company regularly works with many of
the world’s most recognized brands. Staying true to its spirit of invention, one
of the company’s latest innovations is a rapid prototyping tool created using
Adobe PhoneGap.
“To tell the full story of design, you have to do it in an interactive, hands-on
way,” says David Naples, Relationship Strategist at Intuitive Company. “We get
great feedback when we show our designs on devices. With Adobe PhoneGap,
we can quickly deliver proofs of concept, show clients how we propose an
app will work, gather feedback, and then determine what interactions to add,
subtract, or enhance.”

Familiar technology speeds development
The firm recently worked on a mobile banking solution for a client that wanted
to accommodate customers using Android™ or iOS devices. Intuitive Company
recommended using web-based technologies instead of creating two native
apps. By combining the capabilities of PhoneGap with open-source technologies
including Grunt, Handlebars, and Backbone, Intuitive quickly built an example of
the proposed app.
“The customer was impressed by the app and knew immediately that we could
use Adobe PhoneGap to easily scale the app across systems,” says Bob Rullo,
Director of Technology at Intuitive Company. Equally important for Intuitive
was the realization that its design team could modify what they built to create
a tool—called ICUC—to rapidly prototype apps to share with other clients.
Today, PhoneGap is Intuitive’s go-to tool for concepting and building cross-
platform mobile applications. The build-once, use-often flexibility that PhoneGap
provides speeds development, while reducing costs. When prototyping using
ICUC, designers are free to link elements together in predefined templates. An
image, for example, included dynamically in HTML appears automatically on
targeted devices.
“We can use that template again and again, and we don’t have to write more
pages,” says Rullo. “ICUC makes it easy for designers to build prototypes and
move them onto multiple devices using the technology they already know. ICUC
has been so successful, we’re starting to look at ways to use Adobe PhoneGap
Build™ to automate app creation for different operating systems.”
