Originally from Granger, Indiana,
Lieutenant Colonel

Hemmes is a
1997 graduate of Indiana University South Bend, receiving his
commission through Air Force ROTC

at the University of Notre
Dame
. Prior to earning his Air Force commission, he served
an

enlistment in the Marine Corps, including service in Operations
Desert Shield and Desert Storm. He has also deployed to Baghdad, Iraq, and Camp Doha,
Kuwait, supporting Operations Iraqi Freedom and
Enduring Freedom.
