General Approach
:
Radio
-
f
requency identification (RFID) is an automatic identification
method, relying on storing and remotely retrieving data using devices called RFID tags or
transponders. An RFID tag is an object that can be attached to or incorporated into a product,
animal, o
r person for the purpose of identification using radio waves. Most RFID tags contain
at least two parts. One is an integrated circuit for storing and processing information,
modulating and demodulating a radio frequency (RF) signal and perhaps other specia
lized
functions. The second is an antenna for receiving and transmitting the signal.

In this project, we are going to investigate the possibility of using RFID in access and
security control
across

the UAEU gates. The UAEU has tens of campus
es

and hostels a
nd
each has more than one gate. Using a centralized management system and by proving each
eligible

with RFID Tag will allow full control of the gates. At every gate, a RFID
reader will be used and connected to t
he management system. We can have ful
l access
control of all gates if all gates are connected to the
central

management system
.

Design/Analysis Tools and Methods
:
Student

literature review about the
RFID technology and standards. This will be followed by system design and
imp
lement
.
Students will contact the RFID vendors and based of system specification they will make
their selections. Full management systems will be developed using

Expected Project
Deliverables:
By the end of this project a working pilot setup will be
implemented and tested on one of the UAEU gates supported by a management system that
