Simple circuits

Vocabularies:

current I (measured in amperes), voltage V (or U)
(measured in volts), resistance R (measured in ohms)
;

circuit,
power source

(
mains supply
, battery, solar cell), terminal, switch,
wire, junction; alternating current (AC)

direct current (DC)

electric current
... flow of charged particles

(in metal: electrons).

conventional current direction

from
positive
to negative

terminal
, although electrons flow
from negative to positive!

1.

Build a
simple

circuit

using components of the two electricity boxes!
Draw your circuit
using the right symbols

and plot the current direction
!

ATTENTION!

If electricity has a choice between travelling through a device (high resistance) or a
wire (low resistance) it wi
ll always choose the wire

(
short circuit
=”Kurzschluss”)
! And because it
can travel much faster with low resistance, electricity creates more heat in a short circuit. If you feel
your batteries getting hot, you've got a short circuit! Disconnect a wire to t
he battery a.s.a.p.
because the batteries will quickly be ruined.

Fill in:

A
simple circuit

consists of a ________________ (in this case a battery)
, a wire

and a
device

(in this case a ___________). You can use a ___________ that allows you to easily
convert
an open circuit to a closed circuit.

2.

Now build a more
complex circuit
, using more than one bulb and at least two junctions!
Draw your circuit using the right symbols

and plot the current direction
!
