Click here to read the press release. ESA reform has been and will continue to be a momentous
priority for our industry. IPAA’s new initiative, Endangered Species Watch (ESW), is designed
to target, monitor, and communicate to our membership, coalitions, and allied associations the
different threats coming down the pipeline related to the Endangered Species Act. To join the
IPAA ESA Task Force, contact Kristen Lingley.

IPAA: U.S. Oil Technology Revolutionizing Development.
This week, IPAA Declaration
of Independents released a piece on the evolving technology of the oil and natural gas industry.
The IPAA economic team went through different above ground and below ground developments
in technology. These include the different ways that companies hydraulically fracture a well,
improvements in water usage, and development of more efficient hydraulic fracturing fluids. The
article also discussed the amazing “walking rigs” and the advancements in microseismic
monitoring utilized to understand a formation. IPAA explained how “These advances are
enabled by a competitive market driven by the motivation to provide products that have benefits
valued by consumers. Many believe that the industry is in an early stage of the learning curve on
how best to develop these new oil and natural gas resource plays. Current recovery factors for
these plays are very low, and reserve estimates based on existing technology could potentially
see a tremendous expansion as the recovery factors improve with dramatically evolving
technology for drilling, completing, and understanding fluid flow through these low permeable
source rocks.” Please click here to read the full analysis. Also, check out IPAA’s AccessDirect
blog post this week, entitled “Technology in the Age of Shale.”

IPAA on the road.
IPAA’s Vice President of Crude Oil and Natural Gas, Susan Ginsberg,
spoke to the Energy Bar Association at its annual meeting on November 30, appearing with other
energy trade association representatives as part of a roundtable discussion of key issues
surrounding the increased use of natural gas to fuel U.S. electric generation. IPAA Vice
President of Economics & International Affairs Fred Lawrence hosted IPAA's Supply &
Demand Committee in Houston. Manager of Government Relations Matt Kellogg gave an
update on the fiscal cliff negotiations and tax threats on the industry.

Oil and Gas Producing Industry in Your State released.
The 2011-2012 Oil and Gas
Producing Industry in Your State is now available. This original IPAA publication gives a
fantastic state-by-state breakdown of the different industry statistics including exploration and
drilling, production, marginal wells, financial, prices, and consumption information. Thank you
to Editor Fred Lawrence, IPAA's Vice President of Economics & International Affairs and Ron
Planting, IPAA's economist for their tremendous work in putting this together. Please contact
Fred to receive a hard copy.

Relationships in Government (IPAA RIG Program).
Interacting with Members of
Congress at home is one of the most valuable ways to educate policy makers on the issues facing
our industry. During congressional adjournments, Members of Congress leave Washington but
their work does not end when they depart the Beltway. Members frequently hold telephone town
halls and in-person town hall meetings as a way to engage with members of the community.
These events are generally open to the public and provide great opportunities for IPAA members
to personally get involved with their elected officials. Please find a list of town hall events listed
below in key regions of the country.

Rig Count.
From our friends at Baker Hughes, we learn that 182 fewer rigs were operating last
week in the U.S. than at this point last year. For more information, visit Baker Hughes.

Thank you for your ongoing support of IPAA. If you have any questions or concerns, as always,
please don't hesitate to contact me.
