Heart Pine Flooring

This flooring is cut from long leaf heart pine
beams and 2 as salvaged out of pre 1900
buildings located mostly in New Orleans but
also from
other areas in the south and on the
east coast. Antique heart pine

s color is a
beautiful deep red with some occasional yellow
streaks. The grain is generally tight and
relatively hard.

The surface of the heart pine contains nail holes, various size knots and small age cracks
that give it the character that makes it so appealing and beautiful. We run the traditional
tongue and groove flooring, but our specialty is wide plank

dirty top

.
Dirty top is a term
used to describe how the floor is finished. This floor is installed with the original rough,
dirty side up and then lightly sanded so that some of the saw marks remain. When a clear
finish is applied, the color of the wood from years of

aging is amazing. In the photos of the
wide plank flooring, none of those floors are stained. They all have just a clear finish.

Pecky Cypress

Pecky Cypress is a unique lumber
in that it has pockets or recesses
in it that create a beautiful ceiling
or wa
ll covering. The pecky
lumber has exceptional color and
is one of our most popular
products for ceilings.

The cause of pecky has often been
widely misunderstood.
Absolutely no form of animal, insect or worm is responsible at any stage of development,
and t
here is no possibility of the pecking continuing after the cypress tree is harvested.

Once the tree is cut down, the causative agent itself is destroyed and completely
disappears, leaving behind only the characteristic pocketing it formerly created.

Pecking in fact is simply the result of a natural fungus (polyporus amarus) entering older
living trees through branch loss or fires that destroy the bark.

The live tissues thus exposed invite airborne fungi spores in, to begin the sculpturing
process.

TWP Weather Proofing

TWP is a unique combination of chemicals that preserves a
nd enhances the natural
warmth, beauty and integrity of new and old wood.

All TWP products penetrate deeply into the wood without excessive surface film build,
highlighting existing grain patterns with amazing clarity and warmth.

TWP is specifically
designed to provide protection against the four major causes of wood
degradation; wood rot, water, sunlight and mildew.

TWP reduces water absorbtion, the major cause of wood cracking and veneer siding
delamination.

TWP stops wood rot that destroys wood int
ernally and causes structural failure that may
require wood replacement.

TWP has a life expectancy of three to five years (on vertical substrates) with proper
preparation of substrate, proper application and two coats. Life expectancy is longer on
two
-
year
-
old wood.

TWP is available in a V.O.C. compliant form which meets current California Solvent
Emission Regulations.

TWP is extremely lightfast, containing ultraviolet light absorbers maintaining the original
color, while surface mildewcides eliminate prema
ture unsightly gray and black
discoloration. Accelerated and natural weathering tests show superior performance
compared to conventional clear and semi
-
transparent wood finishes. Many stains on the
market are surface
-
oriented and subject to peeling, bliste
ring and chipping. TWP will not
crack, peel or blister.
