The use of cloning

and genetic
engineering

The use of cloning

and genetic engineering

has been the source of much

Controversy

over the Years, and will be wanted by those that put it down

Now
, when they become old and want a kidney or liver transp
lant.

The use

of cloning in England and Norway

is illegal
.

The funding of human cloning was ended in 1994 by
an

act signed by Bill

Clinton, this act stated that funding will be stopped by the government, but

can continue from the public. One of t
he first experiments was conducted at

Oxford

University
, when Dr. John B. Gurdon cloned a frog from the intestinal

Tissue

of its parent in 1968. This kind of research is outstanding, as new

Techniques

and systems can be developed.

An example of ge
netic engineering to help the medical field is when the human genes that code for
the production of insulin are put into a certain strain of bacteria.
This bacteria mass
produces

the
insulin that is needed by
diabetics

that are unable to produce their own
insulin that is required by the
body to turn sugar into fat. There are many more examples, the genetic engineering of cattle to
produce clotting factor 8 in the milk at concentrations of 8g per liter. This clotting factor 8 is needed
by hemophiliacs that
would bleed to death from a simple scratch or a
bruise
.

The use of genetic engineering is something that a lot of people are
against
, but I think that if the
problem arises to them or one of their family members they will be all up for it….and
ironical
ly

their one vote
against

it tipped it in their favor…and banned genetic research forever

and now
they suffer because of it. Don’t end up like that person
(s)
.

Another hot topic is the use of this
technology to help infertile couples that want a child but

are unable to produce one due to
certain

factors. A lot of religious people look at that and frown, saying that “Many religious philosophies
teach, for example, that human life is unique and special and should be created, determined and
controlled only by

their deities.

But in the end I think that it is the best for the good of man kind, and that many of the day by day
illnesses can be removed by genetic engineering and other breakthroughs that I know will occur in
the near future if the funding of gen
etic research and cloning continues. The end result would be
better lives for those who are in desperate need of this technology, those who are paralyzed, and
need spinal tissue repaired, or those on the brink of liver or kidney failure, or those that are
diagnosed with cancer or heart disease, one of those people might be you, or one of your loved
ones. Take your time and think this over, this is not about full scale “star wars” cloning…just
organs that are needed by people for medical reasons… not the res
urrection of Hitler or Stalin.

I
myself have a abnormally thin wall between the top two chambers of my heart… the fear of that
ripping, and dieing at any moment haunts me, and if I was able to clone a heart and replace it, id do
it in a heart beat.

So in t
he end I am all up for this new and developing technology that is genetic
engineering and cloning. To many people it might seem weird, but if the human race is going to try
and keep its population in better health and efficiency, this is the way to go. Jus
t because some
people think that it is ethnically wrong due to their religious beliefs, doesn’t mean that it is
necessarily a bad thing to go with. This technology is relatively new, but it has gone trough leaps
and bounds over the last few decades, first
the cloned frog at Oxford…then the cloning of Dolly the
sheep, who knows, maybe there will be a cloned human in a few years that will result in newer
techniques of cloning and gene extraction, and even the perfect super soldier that would be able to
run fa
ster, shoot straighter, and heal faster in the heat of battle. But this is up to the politicians, and
not me.
