After earning a Master of Science

Degree
in Animal Husbandry, Saran Van H
oosen Jones
went on to receive a Ph.D. in Animal Genetics in 1921, the first woman in the nation to do
so. She used her knowledge
in these fields while mana
ging her family’s farm in Avon
T
ownship, M
ichigan, which was awarded the P
remier Breeder Banner from the National
Dairy Congress in 1942.
