TDAA Petit Prix 2012 Tournament Rules
The TDAA Rules and Regulations currently in effect on the date of competition
shall be the recognized standard for rules for games and standard courses. The
TDAA waives the requirement for use of the table in the standard rounds.
However, use of the table is not precluded. All dogs must be registered with
the TDAA in order to compete.
The following rules shall be observed: All dogs will run all ten standard
courses and games of the Tournament. The top 40 dogs will be recognized for
the Championship round.
Placement, Scoring Format, and Tie-breaking
A dog shall earn points for placement in his jump height throughout the
tournament, in this manner: First place receives 10 points; one fewer points are
awarded for each placement through Tenth Place (which would earn 1-point).
Additionally a placement within the field scoring format shall be used in which
points shall be accorded to the dog against the over-all field for the purpose of
seeding the running order, and ranking the top 40 dogs. The background scoring
shall use a point table (placement inverse to count) to ensure that top
performing dogs are equitably recognized. Each jump height will have 5 spots
guaranteed in the final round.
Dogs running with a jump height exemption shall be scored against dogs of the
measured height and not the exemption height.
Semi-Final Competition and Qualification Notes
All dogs, without regard to competition level, or titles earned, shall compete on
the same courses. All games and courses are eligible for dogs to earn qualifying
legs towards TDAA titles. Standard courses will be judged under the TDAA
Superior rules. Games will be judged under TDAA Games III rules. However, the
dog shall earn a qualifying score only at the level for which he is eligible.
NOTE: Course Time differentials for Beg/G1, Int/G2, Vet Dog, or Disabled Handler will not be
used for Tournament Scoring. These differentials will be used by the score table to
determine if a team earns a qualifying score at the level for which they are eligible and for any
Special Awards for this event. Any maximum course times used will accommodate this.
Some games have scoring criteria where these additional time allowances will not apply.

The Semi-Finals shall include three standard courses and six games. A dog
shall be deemed eligible if he has competed at a TDAA trial since January 1,
2012 or if the handler is a member of the TDAA in good standing.
The Championship Round
The Championship round shall be a sequencing-game. The order shall be jump
height and then reverse seed. Dogs running with a jump height exemption shall
be run at the end of that jump height
While all dogs will compete in the Championship round, forty dogs shall be set
apart and recognized in the final Championship Round.
Advancement into the final 40 dogs shall be based upon the weighted
percentage of entry for each jump height; with the stipulation that a participation
slot may not be taken from a jump height by a dog who has scored lower in the
overall accounting. A minimum of 5 seats are guaranteed by jump height.
Championship Round Scoring
Each dog shall enter the final round carrying all placement points earned
throughout the tournament. Placement within each jump height will be based on
the total accrual of those placement points. The dog with the highest total score
in each jump height shall be deemed the winner and Agility Champion Teacup
Dog. The top 10 placements in each jump height will be recognized.

Championship Round Game
The final competition of the Tournament  and the Championship round will be
Jumpers. This game will be scored Faults, Then Time.

GAMES

Call, Direct & Send
CDS is a numbered course with three built-in challenges: The Call 
usually featured at the beginning of a course the handler uses a lead-
out to call the dog through the performance of the first several
obstacles; The Direct  mid-a-course challenge that might feature a
lateral/layered performance by the dog; and, the Send- usually found
at the end of the course the handler is challenged to send the dog away
to finish the remaining obstacles on the course. CDS is scored
Time+Faults-Bonus.
Whats My Line?
This is a game of strategy and daring in which every obstacle on the
field may be taken only one time and in the order and direction of the
handlers choosing. The briefest and most economical path is key to
winning. The dog earns points for each obstacle completed correctly;
but will lose points for faulted obstacles, for repeating obstacles, or for
omitting obstacles. Whats My Line is scored Points-Faults, Then time.

Weakest Link
The Weakest Link is a dogs choice point accumulation game that
requires a handler to bank points to keep them; or lose points that are
not banked. In this game points earned must be worth as much as or
more than the last points earned; and are safe only when banked.
Often there will be a distance challenge accorded an extraordinary
bonus value. The Weakest Link is scored Points, Then Time.

Power and Speed
This is the Iron Dog competition! This game consists of two separate
parts: Power  technical obstacles only; and Speed  A jumpers course.
The Power section is not timed and any faults earned are deducted from
the final score; The Speed section is timed and will typically be
composed of jumps and tunnels only in a mostly non-technical flow.
Power and Speed is scored Time plus Faults.
Quidditch
Quidditch is a simple game of handling skill. The handler must direct the
dog to perform three sequences of escalating value, and attempting the
simple performance of a tire after each. The game is full of interesting
bonuses and colorful phraseology. Quidditch is scored Points, Then
Time.

Heinz 57
This is a game of math and skillful planning. In this dogs choice game
the handler is challenged to devise a strategic path for the dog to earn
precisely 57
points. A doubling obstacle on the course will allow the dog to
take a mathematical shortcut to the magical 57 points. Heinz 57 is scored
Points, then Time, in a 57 point must system.
Jumpers
Jumpers courses consist of only hurdles and tunnels of all varieties. The
dog is required to run the course in the sequence indicated by the judge.
Scoring for jumpers is faults, then time.

Disclamer

Judges briefing on day of trial supersedes any previous briefings. The
judge will discuss in more detail the game techniques.

SPECIAL EVENTS AT PETIT PRIX TEXAS
BUD HOUSTON PETIT PRIX WARM-UP WORKSHOPS
Bud Houston
, founder of the TDAA, will hold four Handling & Games
Strategies Workshops
to help you understand the rules and methods for
the six games played during the 2012 Petit Prix. The workshops will be
conducted at the J.S. Bridwell Ag Center, site of the Petit Prix.
To register for the Petit Prix Warm-Up Workshops, fill out the
registration form found at the end of the premium. Working spots and
auditing spots are available.
As Marsha Houston
explains:
The way the workshops function is -- Bud has unique course layouts for
all the Petit Prix games. These bear no resemblance to the actual
layouts of the Petit Prix games and courses. He builds the course (with
our help), briefs the game, we walk the course, do our strategizing, we
run all the dogs on the course, with scribes and timekeepers and a
judge.
After we've run it, we discuss what the winning strategy was for our little
group, and how that strategy can be improved upon in terms of an
unknown layout for the same game. Then we go to the next game.
We'll start Wednesday morning with the earliest games of the Petit Prix
and finish Thursday afternoon with Jumpers (the final round of the Petit
Prix.).
To find out more, contact Marsha Houston at
marshahouston@hughes.net

Height Divisions

Entering a dog in a lower height category than it is eligible for will result in the
nullification of any qualifying scores.
Owners are responsible for entering the proper height division. Judges reserve
the right to measure dogs entered in any trial. At the handlers option, dogs
may be entered in a higher height division, but not in a lower than their proper
height division. Dogs that run in a height division lower than their division will
be eliminated. A judge must measure provisional dogs.
2′′ jump height - Restricted to dogs measuring 4 or less at the withers; or
dogs with a jump height exemption measuring 8′′ or less.
4 jump height - Restricted to dogs measuring 8" or less at the withers; or
dogs with a jump height exemption measuring 12 or less
8 jump height - Restricted to dogs measuring 12 or less at the withers;
or dogs with a jump height exemption measuring 16 or less.
12′′ jump height - Restricted to dogs measuring 16′′ or less at the withers;
and open to all dogs with a jump height exemption measuring 20" or less.
16′′ jump height - Open to all dogs measuring 20" or less at the withers.
Height Divisions (Continued)

Special provisions are made for the dogs that are long-backed, or dogs whose
depth of chest is greater than his legs length.
E1 - Long backed dogs  The long-backed dog would be based on the
measurements of the dog from the front of the chest to the back of his rear
compared to the measurement of the dogs height at the withers. As a rule of
thumb, if the dogs length is 150% or greater than the height measurement, the
dog would qualify for this exemption.
E2 - Weight to length provision (by structure, not obesity)  This exemption
should be limited to certain breeds that have a propensity for weight that is
greater than their height if you compare pounds to inches.
E 3 - Dogs with dwarfish legs/deep chest dogs  This exemption is granted
to dogs whose leg to shoulders height ratio is 1/3 or less of the dogs overall
height. The exemption for dogs with dwarfish legs in based on the
measurement of the dogs withers height, when that height is 150% or greater
than the measurement of the space from the floor to chest veteran dog is a
dog at least 7 years of age. There is no special system of titling for veteran
dogs.
FEO Jump Heights: A dog also may be given a waiver to jump at a lower
height even though he does not meet any of the criteria for a jump height
exemption, allowing the dog to run FEO (for exhibition only). Permission to run
FEO will be given to a dog regardless of circumstance. Dogs running FEO will
NOT be able to earn qualifying legs or any TDAA titles
.
Disabled Handler Exemption

A Disabled Handler Exemption as outlined below DOES NOT APPLY TO TOURNAMENT
SCORING. This exemption will be used at the score table to calculate Qs that will count for
regular TDAA titles and for calculating scores for special awards. Also note that some
games may have scoring criteria where this exemption will not be applied.

Handlers with Mobility Limitations may qualify for a course time exemption.
Proof of Disability must be presented and may be sent in with entry or presented
to the trial secretary at check in. Acceptable documentation includes
handicapped parking sticker, physician certification, or other official
documentation of the disability
