1 Asset Management
With the interaction of all the programs in the ServerView Suite, you are assured
of excellent support for installation, administration and restoration throughout
the life cycle of your PRIMERGY servers. For the administration, products are
available for integration right through to the maintenance process.
Figure 1: Administration with the ServerView Suite
To increase the service life of a PRIMERGY server it is important that all
changes to the server are quickly identified and documented. Comparison and
analysis of archived data simplify the tasks of maintenance and error diagnosis.

Figure 2: Asset Management
The Asset Management of the ServerView Suite allows you to record, evaluate
and archive data relating to your PRIMERGY server from a central location. This
includes data on the hardware and the system software such as the BIOS,
firmware, ServerView agents or drivers. Based on this data, you can get a quick
overview of the components of your server. You might discover, for example,
that an “older” BIOS version is installed on a number of servers and you need
to install a later version. You can also keep an eye on the server components
over a longer period and react quickly to changes.

sset Management
The following programs are available for Asset Management:
– Inventory Manager, to query and evaluate the server data (see section
“Recording and exporting server data” on page 10),
– Archive Manager, to archive server data (see section “Archiving server data”
on page 11).

Which server data can be selected in each case is described in the
appropriate documentation.
Interaction with ServerView Update Management
With the ServerView Update Management, you have a convenient option for
obtaining the current status of firmware, BIOS, ServerView agents and drivers
and thus updating servers in your network.
The following programs are available for Update Management:

ServerView Update Management
ServerView Update Management comprises the following components:
– Update Manager for managing online updates,
– Repository Manager for managing the update repository,
– Download Manager for administration of download tasks from the Web
server to the management station,
– Configuration for setting the parameters you use to control the
component downloads.

Update Manager Express and ASPs (Autonomous Support packages), to
install and update BIOS and firmware of the various server components
locally on the current PRIMERGY servers.
On Windows systems you can also use Update Manager Express to install
and update drivers and software kits on the components of your PRIMERGY
server.

PrimeUp to install and update drivers and software kits locally on the
managed server.
In contrast to Update Manager, which can provide entire data centers with
firmware, Update Manager Express, ASPs and PrimeUp are intended for locally
updating individual systems.

Further information is provided in a separate document on Update
Management.
Availability of the documentation
The documentation can be found on the ServerView Suite DVD 2 supplied with
each server system.
The documentation can also be downloaded free of charge from the Internet.
You will find the online documentation at http://manuals.ts.fujitsu.com under the
link Industry standard servers.

A
sset Management Checking the versions
1.1 Checking the versions
For comparison and analysis of the server data, Inventory Manager allows you
to check the up-to-dateness of the system software configuration (BIOS,
firmware, ServerView agents and drivers). This is done using information files
containing data such as BIOS statuses and version numbers.
The latest information files can always be downloaded via the Download
Manager. The prerequisite for checking against the information files is that the
Download Manager has performed an update task, i.e. the information files are
made available on the Fujitsu Technology Solutions Web server. Using the
Download Manager, these files can be downloaded and stored in a directory
(download task). The directory is set in the Download Manager.
Availability of the information files
You can obtain the information files
– via the Fujitsu Technology Solutions Web server. The Web server is the
service and support area of Fujitsu Technology Solutions and can be
accessed at:
http://support.ts.fujitsu.com/globalflash
– via the ServerView Suite DVD 1, for checking locally. The information files
can be found in the firmware directory on the DVD 1.
When specifying the directory in Inventory Manager, either enter the
complete path for the information files or install the DVD 1 on your system
and then enter the relevant path.

Simplifying the maintenance process Asset Management
1.2 Simplifying the maintenance process
The Asset Management simplifies the maintenance process of the servers, thus
reducing the operating costs.
Via the Inventory Manager you can
– record the server data and thus check the inventory,
– export the server data and, with selective queries, perform server analysis,
Via the Archive Manager you can archive the server data, for example to track
changes to the components of a server.
I
Which server data can be selected in each case is described in the
appropriate documentation.
1.2.1 Recording and exporting server data
Recording the data allows you, among other things, to take inventory of and
check the servers:
– To take inventory, you can have all the hardware and system software
components in your server park displayed. On the basis of this inventory, you
get an overview of your servers and the existing components.
– With the version check (SV UpdateList table) based on this information you
can, for instance, look for the servers in a network which do not have the
requisite software versions or which, for example, need to be updated with
new ServerView agents or new BIOS versions in order to homogenize the
company’s software landscape.
The versions are checked on the basis of information files which the
Download Manager has stored on the management server (see page 9).

sset Management Simplifying the maintenance process
The data retrieved in this way can, for example, be recorded in a table (MS
Excel) or a database (e.g. MS Access or SQL Server database) and evaluated.
You can thus perform a server analysis through selective retrieval.
Analyzing the servers in your network can help you find servers which need to
be upgraded with new firmware, ServerView agents or new BIOS versions
1.2.2 Archiving server data
You can archive your server data in order to
– get an overview of the servers in your network.
With an archiving task you can record the components of your servers in the
network. The configuration data of the servers can be recorded at cyclical
intervals, so that you have the current data available at any time. You can use
this data, for example, for your investment planning.
– track changes to the components of a server.
You can display changes by comparing the current configuration data with
recorded data. In the event of an error, the cause of the error can thus be
quickly found and analyzed.
– discover any changes to a server.
For example, if you have just installed a group of servers in the same way
and one server in the group is behaving differently from the others, you can
compare the archive of the “defective” server with another archive from the
server group.
