The department offers six programs that include :Bachelor of Technology (B.Tech. in Aerospace Engineering)

Established in 1969, the Department of Aerospace Engineering at IIT Madras has
excellent experimental and computational facilities and has actively engaged in
research activities of national importance by way of projects funded by various
agencies like ARDB, ISRO, DRDO, DST and BRNS.
The department lays a strong emphasis on knowledge based learning in the
coursework with the students undertaking a wide range of theory courses along
with laboratory and design courses.

Having one of the best Aerospace facilities in the country, students in the
department are encouraged to make use of the same. At the moment the
Aerospace department is taking up both Sponsored Research and Consultancy
Projects. The former is mainly used to upgrade laboratory research equipment
and facility. Industrial Consultancy is also typically research based.
