Chapter 1 Enhancements in 5.0.2
The following enhancements have been made in CommonSpot 5.0.2:

Support for Firefox 3.0
 CommonSpot 5.0.2 adds support for authoring using the Firefox 3 Web browser. Firefox 3 provides improved
performance and reduced memory consumption, plus a host of other features. For more information please refer
to http://www.mozilla.com/en-US/firefox/features
.
 For a list of Notes regarding use of Firefox 3.0 with CommonSpot 5.0.2 please see the Notes
section below.
Support for ColdFusion 8.0.1
 CommonSpot 5.0.2 adds support for Adobe’s ColdFusion 8.0 Update 1, however PaperThin has not tested
CommonSpot in a 64 bit environment.
 The CF 8.0.1 release also corrects undesired behavior during replication when using FTP as the transport layer.
Anyone experiencing issues with replication under CF 8.0 is encouraged to upgrade to this release of ColdFusion.
Render Handler Assignment
 Users with ‘Design’ rights may add a render handler to a template.
Image Rendering
 There are now explicit Title and ALT attributes on the <img> tag for images rendered by CommonSpot.
Control of <body> tag’s CLASS attribute
 Enhancements have been made to allow subsite administrators to specify a BodyTag_class template variable in the
Template Variables field of the Additional Settings section on the subsite admin page. By specifying this template
variable an associated CLASS attribute for the <body> tag will be created. Additionally a new variable named
‘request.BodyTag_ClassOverride’ can be used to control the <body> tag’s CLASS attribute on an individual page
by page basis. Note that the use of this variable will override the use of the BodyTag_class template variable. See
the Developers Guide for more information.
Access to Uploaded Documents
 Trying to access a secured uploaded document while anonymous now prompts the user to login. This is the same
behavior as with standard CommonSpot pages.
User Administration
 In the User Administration section, clicking the ‘Show Detail’ check box now displays the contributor status of the
user.
Installation / Upgrade
 The CommonSpot Installation and Upgrade processes now display & check the recommended ColdFusion
Administrators settings and database requirements. If any CF Administrator settings are outside of the
recommended settings, CommonSpot will modify the settings appropriately. Additionally, several improvements
have been made to error handling during installation.

Application Programming Interface
 After converting a site to be a root level site, the Blog and Calendar applications no longer work.
Breadcrumb Element
 Defining the font in a breadcrumb element before defining the breadcrumb itself causes an error.
Bulleted List Element
 Canceling out of the Edit Bulleted List dialog causes a JavaScript error.
Cache Files
 Page-level cache files not used as expected and rewritten excessively, resulting in minor performance
degradation.
 In some cases, page-level cache files are created for pages with dynamic content.
 Microsoft Word & HTML elements incorrectly cached, requiring manual cache file deletion.
CommonSpot Tools
 In some cases, the 'clear cache' administrative utility fails to clear cache for the selected site. Whether any cache
invalidation was done, the utility consistently reports '0 files deleted'.
Context Sensitive Help
 An error occurs when a 'Help' button is clicked if CommonSpot help is not installed.
Custom Element
 The Edit Display Template dialog opens without a tab highlighted.
 An error is generated when the filtering operator is 'Value Contained in List' and no values are specified (defined).
 An error occurs when deleting a custom element record if Verity is not configured correctly.
Custom Script
 For custom script elements defined on templates, the element cache files are incorrectly shared at the template
level, possibly resulting in incorrect page rendering.
Datasheet Element
 In Preview mode and using Mozilla Firefox web browser, the Author/Edit element icons re-display when switching
between datasheet views.
 Changes to datasheet columns require a browser refresh in order to see the changes.

Element Menu
 Incorrect onMouseOver text was displayed for the 'layout' and 'properties' options in the cell menu of the tabular
layout.
 The third party JQuery and Prototype JavaScript libraries conflict with CommonSpot. The conflict causes the
CommonSpot element icons not to display in Author mode, blocking all content updates.
Feed Index
 Font changes applied to the Feed Index element are not being saved.
Ghost Text
 Unable to change the color of the ghost text.
• The Tabular Layout element inside a template does not have the "Template Ghost text" option.

Element
 Errors occur after deletion of an HTML element if copies of the element exist on other pages.
Image Element
 The Text-Around-Image element is rendered incorrectly under certain circumstances. If the 'middle-centered'
layout option is selected and no text was entered for the 'text after image' section, the 'text before image' section
displays after the image.
 ‘title’ attributes missing from <img> tags
Image Gallery
 In certain circumstances, deleting an image from the Image Gallery causes the image not to render on a page.
Installation
 An error occurs at installation time with MySQL version 5.0.50sp1a .

Page Index
 The Page Index shows pages in other subsites when filtering by an inactive subsite.
 Page Index set to retrieve 'Direct Children' pages from a site with no subsites generates a ColdFusion error.
 Page Index filter criteria could cause an error if invalid date values are entered.
 Inactive sub sites are incorrectly displayed in the Page Index when the sub site is selected from ‘Advanced’ tab.
 A ColdFusion error is encountered if an invalid duration value was entered in the Page Index element and layout
option Custom via Properties and “Render linked (with 'new' indicator)” option selected.

 Switching between HTML view and Normal view removes the space immediately following any formatted
text/word.
 Background color feature is disabled in the properties inspector for Table, TR and TD tags in the RTE if the
background color tool bar is disabled for the RTE.
 Problems occur when creating and then editing links using different browser versions (IE/Firefox). Links are non-
functional or invoke the CommonSpot RTE directly. Please note that any affected links may need to be cleaned
manually.
 Links (jumps) within the RTE to other named elements not functioning properly.
 The ‘Clean’ action incorrectly leaves some formatting in the selected text, and sometimes removes too much.

Chapter 3 Notes
This chapter provides is a list of useful notes regarding CommonSpot 5.0.2.
Firefox 3.0
 Running Firefox 3.0 with any version of CommonSpot prior to 5.0.2 is not supported.
 Running CommonSpot 5.0.2 with the Firefox FireBug plug-in is not supported as extraneous JavaScript errors and
rendering issues occur. FireBug can be utilized in development but is not recommended for use with the
CommonSpot authoring environment.
 Firefox 3.0’s behavior has changed when rendering QuickTime movies with the window mode (wmode) parameter
set to "transparent". Under this condition the QuickTime audio plays but the video is not visible. By default,
version 5.0 of CommonSpot set the wmode parameter to transparent for all QuickTime, Flash, PDF, Audio and
Video elements, and as such any embedded QuickTime video may not render correctly when running Firefox 3.0.
Changing the wmode parameter in the CommonSpot QuickTime element dialog to any other value other that
“transparent” resolves the issue. If your site contains a large number of embedded QuickTime videos PaperThin
provides a utility to programmatically remove the wmode attribute from all QuickTime, PDF, Audio and Video
elements. The utility also removes the default attributes for any QuickTime, PDF, Audio or Video element added in
the future. Note that the wmode parameter is valid for embedded Flash elements. The utility will not remove any
existing wmode parameters or any default parameters for Flash objects. For more information on the utility,
please refer to the Knowledge Base Article http://www.paperthin.com/support/knowledgebase/articles/Objects-
in-CommonSpot.cfm.
 There is a known PDF Bug in Firefox 3.0 which may either crash the browser or prevent embedded PDF elements
from rendering. Research indicates that this is a widespread problem and is not specific to CommonSpot.
 The file upload input control no longer allows for direct entering or pasting of the file path in the input control.
Once the user clicks in the input control the browse dialog is invoked. From the browse dialog the file path can be
directly entered or pasted in.
 As with Firefox 2.0, PaperThin recommends that contributors running Firefox 3.0 set the ‘Raise or lower windows’
option in the Tools > Options… > Enable JavaScript > Advanced… dialog to be checked. If not checked, certain
pop-up dialogs in the authoring environment will not properly be brought into focus. For more information on
this and other Firefox issues, please refer to the Knowledge Base Article
http://www.paperthin.com/support/knowledgebase/articles/default-behavior-change-in-Firefox.cfm
Ghost Text
 The style rule controlling the color of the ghost text is found in the Cascading Style Sheet
commonspot/commonspot.css and the class is cs_GhostText. To change the color modify the existing rule with
the new color and add the important property (!important). Similarly changing the style of the "add new element"
link text is available in the cs_add_anchor class. Modify the existing rule and add the important property to the
declaration. For more information on the important property see http://www.w3.org/TR/REC-
CSS2/cascade.html#important-rules
.

Online Help
 The Online Help (embedded in the CommonSpot installation) was not updated with the 5.0.2 Service Pack. The
current versions of the various Guides are available in PDF format on the PaperThin website at
http://www.paperthin.com/support/downloads/index.cfm.
Rich Text Editor
 If upgrading from a version earlier than 5.0, instruct every CommonSpot contributor to clear their Firefox
browser's cache before using this new version of CommonSpot. This is because the cached files’ JavaScript
variables will conflict with the new variables that are used with the paste operations in the Rich Text Editor. This
does not affect IE.
Upgrade
 A new page in the installation process has been added that lists the ColdFusion settings. Please run
/commonspot/upgrade/ after extracting the Service Pack to confirm settings.

Version History
 (Windows only) After upgrading to ColdFusion 8.0.1, an error is seen in Red-Lined Comparison tab in Visual
Difference. To correct this, re-register typeviewer.dll. This can be done with the following command line:
regsvr32 c:\jrun4\servers\cfusion\cfusion-ear\cfusion-war\WEB-INF\cfusion\lib\typeviewer.dll
(Substitute the appropriate local path for “c:\jrun4\servers\cfusion”)
