Designing Disco Lights


You have tried different sensor circuits, processors and outputs. Now you
need to put them together. Obviously you won’t use heat or light sensors


you will use a sound sensor


a microphone.


This microphone has
to have some power and then put its signal through to
the
amplifier
.


The
output of the amplifier is rectified and then smoothed.


Next comes the
comparator
which switches the FET which

drives 3 strings of
4 LEDs.


On the right is the
power supply and

the
microphone input section.

There are
2
resistors

(1k and 10k)
,
two capacitors

with a value of 470
uF

and one of 1uF
.


Copy the drawing
o
nto
the left
-
hand
side of a fresh sheet of A4
.
Label all
the components with the right values.


Now add the
FET
driver and LED

output
section

as shown on the right
.

You only
need to draw one set of LEDs; the other
two are the same.
There are two
resistors: 10M and 47R. Draw this on
the right
-
hand side of the paper and
label the components.


Now draw the circuit d
iagrams for the Amplifier, Rectifier and Comparator
blocks. They should fit in
-
between the output and input blocks.
