This is a setup method for NetBeans under the Windows Operating System using Cygwin for
Download NetBeans (Google search for NetBeans or go to
Download Cygwin (Google search for Cygwin or
Close down NetBeans and run the setup.exe for Cygwin.
Click next until you get to the Setup Packages window.
Here we need to find 4 packages total. There may be a search bar in the upper left of the
window. Just type in the next lines one a time into it:
gcc-core: C compiler
gcc-g++: C++ compiler
gdb: The GNU Debugger
make: The GNU version of the 'make' utility
Make sure that both of the boxes associated with the lines is marked with an X.
After you find all 4 and make sure that the X's are there, click next and finish installing.
We need to now edit the Environment Variables. To do this you do: Start → Control Panel →
double click System.
Select the Advanced Tab or Button.
Under System click the Environment Variables button.
Under the System Variables panel (Bottom one usually), scroll down until you see under the
Variable heading “Path”. Click that and then the Edit button.
BE VERY CAREFUL THAT YOU DO NOT DELETE ANYTHING IN THERE! All we want
to do is append C:\cygwin\bin to the large list of variables. To do this, go to the end and place a
semicolon (;) there. After that, type in C:\cygwin\bin. Cygwin defaults to install to
C:\cygwin\bin. You need to make sure that where you installed Cygwin is how you put it into
the Environment Variables.
Go to Tools → Options. Click on the C/C++ tab at the top.
On the left side is the Tool Collection panel. Click on Cygwin and click the Ok button.
You are now ready to use NetBeans. Have fun and Enjoy!
